What issues does one have to face apart from the excess weight, can one fly it in low mode. Please enlighten me with the facts of its possibility. matt allsop Posted February 10, 2010 Report Share Posted February 10, 2010 Hi there, I helped another operator on a job last year with one. The biggest issue is weight I thought. To get your gimbal at a reasonable height your going to need a fare bit down the other end! Think we had 3 pags in a selection of sizes. This was on an MK-V Nexus. The G-70 arm took the weight but was told there wasn't too much more if it got heavier. There was a few problems with mounting focus motor, but really was a while ago and can't quite remember. The G.O.T.S.K sorted that with a dog leg and few other bits though! Its really not a steadicam camera though, with 35mm budget I would push production to get an LT or similar for steadicam. Failing that BOOK A TEST DAY and sort all your problems out before the shoot. Saying that there are heavier cameras and people have worked with worse. Premium Members Thomas English Posted February 10, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 10, 2010 It definately is heavy especially if Panavision forget to pack the little lightweight Steadicam Bracket to have a screw fitment at the bottom. So you have to end up flying the entire Panavion sliding baseplate. This maxes out a G70 Follow focus is always an issue when trying to save weight with these things. As often the PV bars rotate even when tight. Make sure you can rig bars from the front of your dovetail. Your probably going to use Primos as well. Make sure in testing the 1st AC tests them for loosness of spin as well as some of them can be really stiff! You can do low mode but I would be upset at the thought but if you have the correct bracketry its fine. The Steadicam version of this camera is the "Panavision Lightweight" which designed in 1975 is basically a stripped down Platinum. It is still made from unobtainium so its not so "lightweight" but absolutely fine for jogging shots and low mode.
