Premium Members Aaron Foley Posted February 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2010 Evening All I’m hoping someone can give me some advice on Flyer LE Power. It’s only been 5 months of flying but already the lack of multiple power jacks on the sled has become extremely frustrating. I’m in the process of building a power junction box splitting from the main power rail. Any advice on a generic plug type of interface? Currently considering mini 4 or 3 pin xlr jacks, but hoping for something potentially more useful. Also I have a number of shoots coming up in the next month flying various incarnations of the Red. While I’ve got most of the current draw specs on the gear, I’m a little concerned that running a red, wireless split, downconverter and Bartech of the sled rails may be pushing things particularly as the wiring in the flyer seems pretty fine. I’m taking a little bit of solace in the fact the Flyer LE comes in a RED edition but does anyone know whether this edition has the same gauge wiring as mine (the cheap as possible edition) or something a little more substantial? Any advice is much appreciated. Cheers Aaron
Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted February 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2010 Welcome Aaron! The good news is, this has all been discussed before! Using Flyer with RED Flyer splitter Mod 1 P-Tap love Flyer Splitter Mod 2 Flyer splitter Mod 3 Lightweight Red set-up Using Flyer with RED Advising against RED on Flyer More on weight, RED, etc.. Juat realized I didn't notice Mike Germond's power splitter that I know he's posted. It may be in one of those threads and I didn't skim far enough. I think someone else posted a box they bought in the same thread as his box is posted. So if you don't see it here, definitely try searching for it. Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted February 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) I don't know that I've ever posted pictures, but I have made mention OF it. So here it is: I'm using it right now to run multiple Litepanels MiniPlus at the Golf Channel. In the past it has allowed me to run my Bartech, wireless video, and the camera of choice all at once. I always have a PTap cable for all my accessories, plus I'll usually have a backup in the flavor of 4-pin XLR or my sled's 3-pin LEMO.. Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted February 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2010 Oops! Guess I mixed you up with someone else! I know I saw a pic a while ago of something someone bought and mounted under the top stage. Or maybe they were only thinking about buying that particular box... I don't remember. But, there's some more P-tap love for ya, Aaron!
Premium Members Michael Nelson Posted February 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2010 I know the one you are talking about...I think they used something that was intended to split 1/4" jacks and just replaced them with LEMO plugs. I usually velcro this one to the bottom of my top stage just behind the post.
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted February 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2010 Apparently Michael Nelson left his account logged into this exact studio imac last time he was in the Golf Channel studios...that was actually me that posted above.. So Mike, if you're wondering why you get email notifications of this topic...you're welcome
Premium Members Aaron Foley Posted February 26, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) Awesome Thanks guys, there's some extremly good info in those links + pics. Though after reading all that i've been left with an itching urge to modify the rig further, perhaps the sleds base is next.... Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted February 26, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 26, 2010 I don't remember if it's mentioned in the thread about my splitter box, but the wiring down my post was replaced with a thicker gauge. Running all those things (as I have done) may be less advisable with the original cables, I don't know. I also don't know if the LE has the same gauge as the 2nd gen (my flyer was 2nd gen). Though the down converter has almost no current draw, and the transmitter is pretty low as well. The BFD on the other hand can spike high (and by that I only mean compared to it's regular draw), but is generally very low.
