Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted March 14, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 14, 2010 (edited) Has anyone put his or her docking collar below their gimbal?I know it will be top heavy but do you think there is anything to think about other then putting an extra sand bag on the stand? I'm flying at my sleds max weight and want to shorten my sled without adding weight to the bottom. I use a Jerry Hill docking system. I would save over an inch of post above the gimbal, which should save a fewinches below right? Thanks Edited March 14, 2010 by Philip J. Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted March 14, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 14, 2010 The docking ring tends to squeeze the post and deform it slightly. This makes extending or retracting your post difficult. If you have a fixed post then no problem.
Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted March 19, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 19, 2010 I did a job the other day, Panasonic HDX900, and mounted my docking ring below the Gimbal. Really short sled. I'd say too short for me. The director asked for a quick low mode shot just flip the camera upside down. But the docking ring was in the way of the Gimbal. So to answer my own question there is a problem I did not think of.
