Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted April 10, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 10, 2011 I built up the rig at the show today, first with my Transvideo and then with the Cinetronic. The brightness and viewing angle the moment we plugged it in got an involuntary "oh wow" from me and my AC. Dynamic balance was quick and we shot two videos of a 1+ minute flat spins. We took it outside in the direct sun in the TV truck area, full afternoon sun and shot photos from multiple angles facing N S E W, plus photos with purposeful glare of the sun directly in the screen and sun just flaring at the top and bottom edges. Sun directly reflecting in my face from the screen was harsh and not really doable but as I feathered it to the edges the image came back albeit what you would expect. I shot a few images of it in such a way that I could see that purple'ish anti-reflective coating; basically the monitor pointed into the sun. A few rare clouds rolled over and while it was not a complete overcast day it looked the same. I tried to get into a spot where the side of the white building reflected fully into the screen but frankly it didn't matter. Barring the direct image of the sun reflected into the screen to your face there were no angles I could find that the image was not daylight bright; very bright. We checked the monitor setting and it was on 50% brightness, 75% contrast, 100% backlight. Having worked with my Transvideo for a year now, I can safely say that this monitor was noticably brighter in this brief test inside and outside. The viewing angles are more forgiving as well. However, brightness isn't everything. My Transvideo is an awesome monitor and I have no complaints about it! It's plenty bright for daylight work, has TONS of features and is extremely well manufactured. Their service and support is excellent as well. But, I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd love to put this screen in my Transvideo housing. There was nothing scientific about my little test today and no way to compare it to another monitor or monitors a la Charles Papert's "monitor rotisserie". I'll give it a workout this coming week and maybe post the photos but I think you're better off seeing it for your own eyes. The Angenieux booth is located in Central Hall C6037 behind Canon and in front of JL Fischer, next to DEDO and LightPanels. We're supposed to be "roaming" the hall(s) with an actress but I don't know how much "roaming" with a full sled I'm interested in. I'll post my call times when I get them. Premium Members chris bangma Posted April 10, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 10, 2011 I wish to thank everyone for the glowing reviews. At the moment, we understand that the housing is a bit bigger and heavier than we would like it to be. This is due to the controller we are using. We have decided to invest in our own custom controller, which will allow us to offer many more features, and cut the size of the controller dramatically. The new controller will be smaller than the screen itself, and much thinner than the housing you see currently. Anyone who purchases the monitor now, will be able to upgrade to the new controller and housing when it is finished. We anticipate showing the new controller and screen at Cinegear. We will also have a 7" widescreen available for demo in 1-2 weeks. The 7" will be the same brightness, but with slightly better contrast, and 85 degree viewing from all angles. Here are the planned features of the new controller: -3G Hd-SDI -Image Flip and rotate -Adjustable Framelines -Focus Peaking -False color -On screen level -6-36 volt power input

Richard James Lewis
If you aren't operating with it "tabled" it looks like the viewing angle is compromised on this design of the yolk as it seems to drop the monitor quite far down, maybe if it wast at such of an angle the yoke wouldn't get in the way I've never really understood the attraction to the tabled angle approach as the picture isn't actually pointing at your face. Each to their own I guess... I'll have one, but I'd really like it with a spigot mount... Thoughts? Rick.
