SG's Operator's Master Class June 7 & 8, 2010

You've got your rig, you've done the line exercises, you've chased the pets/kids/wife around the house ad infinitum. Maybe you've done a few small jobs. Now it's time to really get in the game.

The Steadicam Guild presents the Operator's Master Class, an intensive practical workshop that focuses on the techniques and challenges faced by the working operator through realistic scene study.

The participants will be presented with shots to perform that duplicate the experience of being on set as much as possible. Because of the small size of the group, more time will be devoted to finessing the shots than in a conventional workshop. Along the way, the instructor will pass on various tips and tricks as well as critique the results.

The unique aspect of this class is the focus on a scripted scene that is as close as possible to an elaborate Steadicam "one-er" that an operator may encounter on set. Working actors are on hand to perform the scene which is custom-written and specific to the location, a standing set on a working soundstage.

Due to the small class size, students will have the opportunity for multiple takes which will be played back and evaluated by the instructor. This "real-life" experience has proven to be extremely valuable for prior participants. <--click on link for testimonials.

This year's Master Class was awesome! I highly recommend this workshop for those who have some experience already.

I can't begin to explain how much I learned and how great the instructors are.

Great working with Jerry F, Brian, Jamie, James, Anthony, Dave and Charles.

Definitely the best workshop for steadicam. the only one that really talks and teaches about real set situations. Learned so much in those 2 days!

Thanks to the Guild and its instructors for putting this together!!

Fantastic class! The small group allowed for individual attention and plenty of time in the rig. It was also great to connect with other up-and-coming operators (Anthony, Jamie, Brian, Jerry, Kevin). Doing a long, complex shot with real actors (finger rehearsal + 3 takes) was really effective in revealing strengths and weaknesses (good to know what to focus on in practice). Big thanks to Charles and David for putting on the class!

What an amazing class and fun group. I really enjoyed both the technical education as well as exploring the artistic side. Its already been said but I really appreciate what Charles and David did to put this on and provide so much valuable information to us newer operators. Thanks again for everything and look forward to seeing you all again soon
