Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted May 13, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) I'm looking for a relatively compact thumb/wing screw for some rod brackets I'm making. A Kipp handle might work but I'm thinking more compact. I need to pinch the rods like the bracket in the attached picture. Grip is obviously something to consider. I can't find anything this small on McMaster Carr. What are your recommendations? Edited May 13, 2010 by Mike Germond
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted May 13, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2010 If you're thinking of something like the little wing caps on your socket block, those come in a variety of sizes, colors and shapes for < .40 cent each. What I do is put a small drop of Liquid Nails in the head before I align and smack the bolt head down into it. Robert
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted May 13, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2010 I was looking at Shear-Loc's website and they have exactly what you're talking about. They fit over allen cap screws, right? Where do you typically get yours from? Mike
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted May 13, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2010 Mike, They press right onto Socket Head Cap Screws. They actually engage both the outside of the head and the hex inside, so it's a really secure drive. The ones I own came from McMaster-Carr, and are found here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#thumb-screws/=72qxpn You can even get some with the screws already in them, which can be nice.
