Premium Members Nic Owens Posted May 14, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 14, 2010 G'day everyone, The black flexible plastic strip that runs around the front of my vest at the waist has cracked in a number of places and is on it's last legs. Any advice on DIY replacement would be greatly appreciated. CHeers, Nic
Premium Members Ken Nguyen Posted May 14, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 14, 2010 Hi Nic, New part from Tiffen is only $145.00USD (last year price) You won't save much if you try to make one yourself. Cheers, Ken Nguyen.
Moderators Janice Arthur Posted May 14, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted May 14, 2010 Nic; I agree with Ken, cheaper than trying to find it on your own. Think about this, it broke on the edges because you're probably a skinny guy and you over-flexed it there. Try (since its broken anyway) taking off the broken part. Shave down the rough edge to make it look nice and you may not need that to replace the bottom plastic. Put on some new velcro if its needed and away you go even better. You may just break the new part again in a short time because you'll overflex it? JA
Premium Members James Puli Posted May 14, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 14, 2010 Hey Nic, how are ya? Give Louis a call. Hes got a great plastics guy down in Melbourne who recently made a similar repair to a vest for us! Cant remember what it cost, but like the others said, may work out easier to get the part from Tiffen! JP

Great advice from all, I've already modified it like you suggested Janice, and it seems fine for the time being. I did email Louis, James, and he's going to get his plastics guy to fabricate one. Should be all good. Thanks again, Nic
