On-set iPhone charger

One of the more common questions I overhear on set lately is, "Does anyone have an iPhone charger?" As a victim of battery drain myself, I figured I'd fix the problem. I made a little gadget that will charge the iPhone from any P-Tap. Totally self-contained. Doesn't require an AC power source. Obviously, I'm not tapping into the camera or my rig while working - though I suppose I could. I typically use my portable AB plate I have for various accessories.

Anyway, I figured I'd see if there might be interest in these if I were to make any more. Let me know!

I actually bought one of these when Costco carried them almost 2 years ago:

I personally have the KBC-L2S, which sports a 5000mAh Li-ion battery and two USB ports. Take your iPhone charging cable, plug into the USB, and press the button. I've charged my iPhone from near-dead 3 times before recharging the KBC-L2S.

Just other options, I guess?

Understandably so, and I'd probably be inclined to have Afton's device as a backup. Just offering an alternative that fits in your pocket, and can charge while your phone is on, in your pocket with you or sitting on your cart.

I guess my goal was to eliminate the overhead. I'm aware there are tons of available "top-up" batteries you can buy. Why would you want to buy one more thing that you have to recharge....in order to recharge something? All sorts of USB adapters, cigarette lighter adapters, and adapters of all kinds are available, but you're then into some complicated daisy chain of cables. I just wanted something that would work, on its own, with what we all already have on set. Nothing more.

Afton, you always "be thinkin"! Looks like a great idea!

I use a Solio portable solar charger. It has a built-in lithium you can charge via the sun or an active USB port and it comes with adapters to fit almost any phone / device out there.

Just to let you know, Afton has made me up a neat solution for iPhone charging on-set. It's an iPhone charger that can be powered through either a D-Tap or a 4-pin XLR. It's all black and works fantastically well. Great product!!

Glad you like it, Jason! Thanks!!

Yes, as Jason mentioned, the photo I posted originally was of the initial "prototype", if you will. They're a bit more slick now - all black, slightly smaller, curly power cord.
