Wind killer

Hi there

I have had serious issues with strong winds throwing off the steadicam off balance. At times its difficult to hold off flags to cut off the wind due to the lights placed around the operator. How does one go about handling situations like this. I have heard of the windkiller kits, anything beyond this kit. please advice.

Thanks

Nitin

Thanks Robert,

Was looking out for something like a screen held in a frame. Has someone made one, something like the Windkiller from sunbounce products.

Sometimes, asking a grip to block the wind with a 4x4 double net instead of a flag works better. Similar principle to the Windkiller, but typically available on set.

I've also seen a clever grip make one out of an open 4x4 frame and a roll of plastic netting used to block pets from areas of the house.

It is sooo easy: go to the hardware store and buy two broomsticks. Then find (maybe in the same hardware store) the wind breaker fabric that they use around tennis courts, you can get that in black or green. it should be 2 or 3 meters long (its often 4 or 5 ft wide)

With a tacker you attach this to the broomsticks and voila: roll it off as long as you need and have it held by two persons. You can look through it, but it filters the wind and wind gusts very well.

And it is light weigh and soundless!

Guys you should never be using a solid, always use a double. The reason is that with the solid you create a huge amount of turbulence and the grip cant see you. With the double you knock the wind down to a reasonable force and the grip can see you.

You really can't beat the wind killer from sunbounce

Hi Nitin

I went down to a camping store and they had this great shade plastic material which has worked great for me for the last 15 years .The size is 4 x 4 with 1"x 1"box aluminium that hold to together .It is see through for the grips and stops 90% in fact it filters the air .I will try and get the product name for you when I get home ok.

All the best
