Premium Members Peter Hoare Posted May 23, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2010 I was given this a while ago by Lemo here in the UK, and I thought I would share some photos. This is a size six type K Lemo (water tight) with 106 contacts. I was told at the time it was made as part of a low run for some kind of control system (I think they mentioned a diagnostics system in a power station or something). I believe this is one of the only connectors this size that is not in use somewhere. Its a bit bigger than a Red Bull can, and it weighs about 1.5-2kg. Its pretty hard to take apart, as its a water tight one, it has huge seals in it that are difficult to squeeze out. Looks like an absolute nightmare to solder! I like it because the internals are an exact copy of smaller connectors, it has the same half shells and the same cable clamp collets, only scaled up.... With a 0B connector 106 pins. Cool eh?! Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted May 23, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2010 I'm sure Jim Bartell and Terry West will make a pin-up poster of this! Hmmmm... soldering 106 pins or for that matter a cable with 106 wires!
Premium Members Peter Hoare Posted May 23, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2010 Quite willing to take some decent white table pictures of the connector if anyone wants to do a poster of it! I have been badgering Lemo for a while now about getting hold of a socket to go with it :-D
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted May 23, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2010 So will you be using it as a center post connector or a camera power/everything connector? :-)

Premium Members William Demeritt Posted May 23, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2010 Great, now I feel self conscious. What's the average Lemo size?

Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted May 24, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2010 Wait a minute. Peter, are you and the other people in these pictures members of the race of incredibly tiny people that assemble our gear? That would explain why I always have such a hard time soldering those damn lemo connectors......

That would explain why I always have such a hard time soldering those damn lemo connectors...... I use crimp connectors, I don't bother with solder anymore! That crimp tool thing was the best £400 I ever spent, saved me so much time soldering and thousands and thousands of pounds over paying someone else to do it... Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted May 24, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2010 Come on, gents, that's the new output connector for the Canon 5D/7D DSLR monitoring setup! Remember?? C'mon. You know you remember. Back in the day, Brant called me up. This is maybe..... 1993? " We gotta go to this junk yard. Meet me there. Bring pliers and a razor knife and a bag. Dress to get very dirty." So, off I go. Brant had found a medical device. Some kind of imager. Laser had already been removed but man it had some large and interesting lenses still mounted into the central column. It was festooned with Lemo's. Cables, chassis-mounts, the whole ball of wax. We made quick work of the thing. We cut every cable as long as possible and removed the matching chassis mounted connector whenever we could. I think we crawled it for about an hour. Best part? The guy looked into each of our dirty dingy bags and said, " I dunno. What a mess. ( The spaghetti of gray cabling ). Gimme $ 25.00 each of you. " We sort of nodded..... and paid. And ran like heck. Those Lemos made for a lot of very happy modifications and got used into 2003 when I built my lightweight prototype sled. Eventually sent what was left of my bag to Brant. We couldn't even figure out what each of our bags was worth. A few thousand new. And...of course...they're gold plated connectors so they appeared as new. A marvelous day !!! I soldered my 12- pin HRS connector up for the Fuji zoom cable for my old J-7. Took me hours. Hours and hours. My goodness.
