Update:

no flip function really screws me. Seems like this should be a basic feature in every monitor.

Also, the glass coating on the screen is nice, except in direct sun, where it reflects something mean.

Overall though, I still love the marshall. It saves my ass every time I'm outside in bright daylight.

Thomas, I run a thin (rg-179) bnc from the front of the stage to the monitor. I've been powering the monitor with an ab dionic. It adds much needed weight to the front of my sled. I can also power it using the 4pin output in the bottom of my sled if I need to save weight.

I also had to choose between the transvideo and the marshall. Price was a big factor for me. Plus I didn't need all the features that transvideo had like waveform, false color, coffee machine, etc.

There's some pics of the monitor on my sled on my website in the pics tab.

I'm working on a universal yoke, waiting on the machinist for prototype--stay tuned.

Marshall level is a work-in-progress. It's not quite ready for our requirements yet.

Hi Charles,

This might be a good option for Steadicam use. I have an Archer 1 and am thinking of upgrading my monitor. This could be it.

Best. Sebastien

I considered the new 8.4" but a few factors pushed me back to the 6.5"

-8.4" is bigger (about an inch and a half on all dimensions)

-8.4" is lower resolution (800x480 vs 1024x768)

-8.4" has way offset battery mount vs relatively centered mount on the 6.5"

-Weight 8.4" 2.25lbs, 6.5" 1.3lbs

Off course, you do get image flip on the 8.4" and the bigger screen (might be nice in 16:9).

Ha ha, dont need the coffee machine :-)

Back to how you mount the monitor?

I have got the Clipper with the standard 7" monitor, and are planning to make a Mount like the one I already got.

So how did you do it? Some special fitting, or did you use the standard from your EFP?

I know that the Marshall has got the mounting on the botom, and none one the sides, so I have to make something to get it to fit.

The Marshall has holes on the sides and top to screw on their little mounting plates which have a 1/4-20 threaded hole.

Thanks Jess.

I just got a used Marshall with HDMI for our 5D MK-II, and that didn't come with any plates? But if it comes with a new one, then it should be just fine :-)

Then there's just the "artificial horizon" problem.

I know that Marshall are making this little box, but it's really not that good. Does anybody know of an external unit, that works with the Marsall and in HDSDI?

The plates don't come with it (well just the one for the bottom) but atleast on the V-LCD651STX the holes are there for them and Marshall sells them. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/480414-REG/Marshall_V_LCD70TMB_02_V_LCD70TMB_02_Tripod_Mount_Brackets.html They may not do exactly what you need but they may be a useful piece for a solution.

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd update this thread a bit. I just bought one of those Marshall V-LCD651STX-3GSDI monitor for my Steadicam Archer 1, I wanted the 8.4" one that you can see here

http://www.marshallm...4STX/index.html

but they decided not to make it after all,( I just talked to a technician at Marshall). I called them because I'm still wondering how I'm gonna mount this monitor on my sled, and thought they could help when it comes to bracket and adapters for their monitors, no luck. The side holes on the V-LCD651STX-3GSDI are 1" apart and so the little plates that Jess had mentioned won't work. I will keep on looking but If anyone could help me find something, I would appreciate.

Best, Sebastien

How does this model compare to the V-LCD65SB-AFHD ? any opinions? differences? Also Im curious what some of you guys use (if at all) for tally for live television? Also if anyone has any opinions on focus controllers that would be awesome as well. I currently operate with the G-ZOOM and i love it. But sometimes i find myself shooting on cameras that only have a semi-servo lense, so looking for an independent unit i can use in these situations.

looking forward to hearing some suggestions!

Guys any feedback on this marshall monitor at all in comparison to the 6.5 inch Marshall?

http://www.marshallmonitors.com/products/monitors/V-LCD70XHB-3GSDI/index.html

Looking to upgrade my shockingly shit standard Archer 1 monitor shortly also, only other one I had in mind was this one:

http://www.proav.co.uk/Brands/SWIT/Location-LCD/br687_c578_p26879.aspx

I like the size of the swit one, and the image quality is quite nice (i've seen one in person), however I realise it is probably not as bright as the marshall....but then again i'm not expecting to get everything I want/need within that price range.

I'm going to buy one of their digital horizon indicators and see what it's like. It's only $230!

Hi David,

I'm planning to pick one up in a couple of weeks as well. I got a chance to see it in operation (of sorts) at the Marshall booth at NAB. My one concern is being able to set the latency of the level so it doesn't pickup every little nano movement and the other is the visibility of the display. It looked OK but of course the litmus test will be on the rig.

I was assured you could adjust the sensitivity (latency) but I didn't have an opportunity to see the controls.

Would be good to have a good digital level for a few hundred bucks... We'll see.

-Andrew
