EXT DIG Level for Transvideo 6" HD monitor?

Hi all,

I was wondering what external digital levels will work with the transvideo 6inch HD monitor?

I know of Betz's level but does anyone have that one and can give feedback?

Also, know that the PRO level only works with their monitor, so is the XCS one only limited to the TB6?

Any input appreciated...

thanks!

Jerry

ok, good to know. thx!

but I guess if you have an hd sled someday it won't work with the digital hd signal...hmmm...

any levels out there that do? I'm pretty sure the betz does it, but I'd like to hear from people that actually own one of these...

Is your Tranny not upgradeable to have a level? Some are.

I'm using the Transvideo SBL 6 Evolution on my XCS sled which has the built-in PDL as well. I prefer the operation, look and size of the PDL over the built-in level on the Transvideo BUT when I'm doing live HD work where I'm pulling my own focus, zooming,, dodging cable, operating and making espresso for the Director I use the monitor level.

You can do both but then you have to downconvert the signal unless the camera has it's own SD output.

Something like that

I do have the internal level on my monitor and of course I'm used to it now...had the monitor for over a year, but it's just not the accurate and true...

I hear having the level on the bottom of the sled at the center post is the way to go...

so, robert on that monitor, how do you select the the reading from the PDL in the horizon menu...my monitor only has INTERNAL or BETZ...?

also, since you are using both methods, how much more accurate is the PDL compared to the internal monitor one?

Supposedly it is a more accurate location for a level but (I think) that is due to not having the effects of inertia / acceleration that a monitor located level has.

I don't make that selection; to get the built-in PDL I simply change my source input on the monitor from HDSDI to SD and the PDL then shows up via the XCS monitor connection.

I have tested them both to display on the monitor at the same time and adjusted them to overlap above/below each other to see for myself. Regardless of the sensitivity and reactive settings it's very very difficult to see any difference between the two. If they both had the same type of level style and the same settings you might could see it but with those variances I could NOT tell any difference; level was level, off level was off and that was that. You'd probably have to set them both to the highest sensitivity, fastest response and then video tape them and play them back in slo-mo to see the reactive differences; it was too fast for my eyes.

In my mind, I believe the XCS Ultimate 1 built-in level to be more accurate than the Transvideo but that could just be due to the fact I like the style of the indicator better (and I paid extra for it  ). That is not to discount the Transvideo monitor level quality which was an expensive option too; when I'm doing HD it's my only choice and I have no issue whatsoever that it is accurate "enough" to do the job.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I've took the level from my original Betz(Chrosziel) green screen monitor and use it on one of my LCD's.The level is only working with SD signals.I'm nor shore about the external levels ,but really think that they are the same ,but packed in a case.

The easiest way to know that is to ask Christian Betz via this forum or direct thrugh his site.

Dear Jerry,

our external digital level does work like the analog which exists now 20 years. We just made it digital to work with the Transvideo HD monitor. How can we arrange for you to test it?

Best regards

Hi guys,

a little update...

I have been testing the Betz Level on my Transvideo HD monitor for the past few days...

Pretty good, what I see so far. Used to an internal monitor-based bubble to one that measures at the bottom of the post I can see how it's different...

Especially when you come to a stop after a pan, the external level is faster and more precise.

I don't know if that's with all levels, I assume so, since it's measured at a better spot and in line with the rig's CG.

With the Betz, your level feed is on a different connection than your video which allows it to work in both HD and SD, both analog and digital.

My sled is not HD at this point but would love to test it with someone that has a Transvideo HD monitor and HD sled.

I'm in Los Angeles and if someone with the above mentioned gear is willing to meet up and test it, feel free to PM me.

So long...

J.
