Imagine Thowing this up on your back.

I like the custom offset they machined for this.

Maybe all the companies can start offering three section arms for heavier setups!

Thats Chris Fawcett with Larry McConkeys Ultra2, on set in London. The guy you see Chris tutoring is Larry himself. Must be fun tutoring Larry :D :D :D

looks like Larry is flying a pro arm now? You're right, that's a serious extension (the "f" bracket or whatever it's called now days) btw the arm and gimbal. Anytime ya gotta go to 4 blacks in the arm is not a good day unless you are riding like this. That's a 45 to 50 lb payload!

Don't have to.....I've done it a few times. Not the only one either, I share the dubious honor with Dave Isern and Phillip Martinez. Dual red beamsplitter, phew! Just about unusable, we ended up hardmounted most of the time.

what can I say, I young, dumb and eager. Yet I still love 3D.

Yes,

That's me, Larry, and Demetri at Shepperton, where Larry was prepping for Scorsese's Hugo Cabret.

That f*** bracket is one of Larry's toys. It's handy for seated hard-mounts so you can circle the arm around your knees. We weren't using it for added extension, so there was no extra strain on the rod ends or the block. It does put a lot of extra strain on the arm post, though both Larry's G70 and the Pro we tested handled it fine. The total load on the arm was 35kg (77lbs). The 3D camera rig alone was 27kg (60lbs). Larry was running around with it like it was nothing. What a pro. It was an honour to work with him.

As much as I love to geek out at the technology and admire great steadicam work, stuff like this just plain sucks balls. I remember not 5 years ago we were flipping out over flying the G2 conversion kit (just under 40 lbs) and Mellinium (2 lbs less) cameras. And now it's ok? And not only is it ok by a few more pounds but by a dozen+ pounds? I know someday this will be fixed with smaller set-ups but when is too much too much? For the love of Zues' butthole the havok on the human body caused by all that weight will be felt by grandchildren! I hope it will be a lot of hard mounting for Larry's sake!

Agreed.

Hopefully he'll be able to use the Steadiseg for most of it.

Right with you on that Ron... Although it is simply inspiring that Larry continues to push the process not only for himself, but for all of us. In a recent conversation with him, weight had less to do with his concerns than the problems associated with convergence adjustments and its effect on quality steadicam operating.
