Working for one of the largest Fortune 100 companies in the world for $2500 flat rate... really? Working in a Union facility for $2500 flat rate and taking work from local brothers and sisters... really? Low-balling what was a full-rate job in the past... really? Destroying rates that reputable operators have spent years building / upholding... priceless! Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted July 28, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 28, 2010 I wonder if this op thinks that they got the job because they are a "better" operator or if they actually realize that they were only hired because they are cheap... Oh and a special message for that op. Thanks, Thanks for driving the rate down and damaging the position, way to go, you da man

Robert I got called the last week by a DP I know for a one day job on Sunday in that burning hell you call home, Robert. Didn't think I could make my schedule work so I gave him your name and # and he later said the producer quickly rejected it. I wonder if it is the same company. Someone contacted me this morning asking If I was interested and I quoted him a decent rate and he was OK with that.

Thanks for the referral attempt! Much appreciated! Not the same job Doc, this one I'm referencing is mid-August. The only job I got a call for this Sunday was shooting REHAB at the Hard Rock all day outdoors in 110 degs heat flying a Varicam amongst a sea of drunks! They wanted a low flat rate for 12 hours, no OT and I don't do that; at least not unless they are very close friends and I'm doing a personal favor. Thanks! Premium Members Ken Nguyen Posted July 29, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 Hi all, Low-baller = Low skill and/or low artistic mind. 99.5% of the time production get what they pay for. I hate Low-baller; but, I sometime feel happy if one jump in steeling my work by offering low rate! Why? because I know for sure, next time when I'm back, that producer will respect me more. Robert, just make sure you have a solid proof before you public his name and photo. His explanation may help to clear up question. Sometime, we have to look with one eye only so a fellow op can slit pass the border. In the situation when, he or she is in financial trouble. My 2 c, Ken Nguyen. Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted July 29, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 Hi everyone I know exactly how you all fell I have lost out on many jobs to low ballers .On one job the DP wanted me but the PM told him he had to use this guy because the other guy was cheaper(only several 100 $) . After the Reshoots he wasn't cheaper and the PM will never use that guy again . In this case the operator was found out and thing worked out in my favour. There are also other op's how should know better (You know how you are) they are only thinking of themselves and don't give a #### about any one else but themselves .I hate that and I will never help/support them . just my 2 cents. Premium Members Emre Tufekci Posted July 29, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 I recently got call from a producer in DC area asking for a low rate. Here was our conversation: Producer: Hi I found your information on steadicam-ops.com and loved your reel. Me: Thanks, how can I help? Producer: We need a steadicam op for 5 days buy I can only pay half rate. I also need you to throw in a follow focus, wireless and monitor for free. Me: My rate is my rate and I cant give you that stuff for free. Producer: What can you give me for free? Me: A dial tone...click He never called back.
