kurt nolen
Greetings. I'm new to the forum so if my question has been answered elsewhere (I swear I looked before posting this...) sorry. A point toward the proper article is appreciated. The hdslr shoot I'm on rented a flyer to mount the production's Canon 7d on. Between the baseplate, matte box, follow focus and erector set to put it all together, the weight isn't so much of a problem. What I am having trouble with is trying to find a relatively concise answer as to how I can power the camera from the AB batteries on the sled. Actually, battery. Because it seems to only have one battery mount. I actually watched another operator literally fry a 5d on another shoot 2 weeks ago with a really bad idea involving a dummy battery and a cable he bought off eBay. Smoke coming out of the camera and everything. I think I may be one bad decision away from being "that guy..." Any help is appreciated. Premium Members Brandon Zachary Posted August 2, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 2, 2010 Kurt, First of all, welcome! Not sure about the frying issues you've seen, but the two cables you need are below. Abel Cine Tech should have these in stock. Canon DR-E6 DC Coupler Switronix XP-DSLR-C Power Tap (Mfr # XP-DSLR-C) I've sent a few of these units to Terry West to shorten into the perfect length and he's done an incredible job. -Brandon
Premium Members Pedro Guimaraes SOC Posted August 3, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 3, 2010 (edited) I used a viewfactor cage recently on a 7D shoot. It was great. I just used the supplied lemo "cage" to a d-tap. I have a cable that goes from my sled to a multitap so I pluged the cage d-tap into that along with focus motors. Worked great. Great product. many rental houses here in LA are starting to carry these cages. In the video below you can see him connecting to the AB battery with the lemo to d-tap My steadicam setup with it, Edited August 3, 2010 by Pedro_Guimaraes

Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted August 11, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2010 IDX also makes an AB P-Tap to Canon 5D/7D power supply I think this will fry Canon 5DM2 if you plug it directly in to AB 14V regulated voltage from the P-Tap my friend (V-Plate) will take care of that issue. But thanks for pointing that out.
