difference between Archer 1 and Archer 2

I am wrighting this post because I might purchase a steadicam archer 1, and I can not manage to find a detailed technical list about this rig. Could someone help me by giving me the principal differences between the Archer 1 and the archer 2.

Hi Alexander.

With all my respect, if you can´t manage information or have no time about the sled you need may be you buy a wrong one.

Every sled is a personal choice, and it depends about your work.

Archer 2 is a good idea. For me it should be better Archer 1, but I have an Ultra2 and a Master film series.

..You must search info about and not be waiting other ops. makes your personal choice.

Hi, Alexandre.

I understood your question. And it's really not that difficult to find the big differences.

Archer 1 is the old design, with little possibility to get the sled into Dynamic Balance. The arm and west is the same as the new Archer 2

 

The Archer 2 comes in three different packages:

 

Archer 2

With the smaller G-40 arm and with less accessories, and no motorized stage.

 

Archer 2S

G-50 arm, Single axis Motorized stage, low mode kit, better docking stand.

 

Archer 2SE

G-50 arm, dual axis Motorized stage, low mode kit, LX Leather vest, Power Cube Kit, better docking stand.

None of the archers have build in artificial horizon.

Amando, I think Alexandre is expressing excitement about having discussions on the steadicam forum. "I'm so excited I can't wait" is so common in the US I didn't give it a second thought. Out of context though, it totally looks like he's saying he's too busy for us!

 

 

Thomas, The Archer 2 only comes with a G-50 now-a-days, if buying new.

 

Alexandre, there should be plenty of literature about the Archer 2 on the Tiffen website and elsewhere. I assume you are worried about missing out on something by getting the Archer 1 you are looking at. I don't know the specific differences, other than the obvious physical shape/portability. The power ports may be slightly different, or at least some of them. There may be some 2pin Lemo 12v ports on the Archer that will be 3pin Lemo 12/24v on the Archer 2. Speaking of, is the Archer 12v only? That may be different.

 

Good luck, maybe someone more familiar with an Archer will chime in, though I bet there is information if you do a search here on the forum. |-)~

Thank you for notifying me on such short notice. Armando, I'm sorry if you took my words the wrong way. I was, as Brian said, showing excitement. (I am french...). I asked all these questions because the offer I found is second hand, and I don't want to make the wrong choices. Thank you all for giving me all these answers, I read them thoughtfully. I will manage to do the right choice.

I may be wrong, but I think the Archer 1 is wired SD Analog. Archer 2 is HD wiring but HD monitor is optional.

I own an original Archer. As you can see from the previously posted pictures, the Archer 2 has a collapsible base. On the Archer 1 The monitor position is fixed within the yoke. You can not move it in/out or up/down the post. The battery can move in and out but does not tilt like it does in the Archer 2. In my opinion the position of the battery on the Archer 1 is too far back. I have never needed to pull the battery out to achieve dynamic balance. Actually the only way I have been able to achieve dynamic balance is to add weight under the post by attaching it to the rods. I made a battery mount that slides onto the rods and is adjustable. With this modification dynamic balance is easily achieved.

 

You may have to add weight to the Archer 2 base to get it heavy enough for the desired post length.

Archer 1 will handle an SDI or Component HD signal.

 

I have since changed the base of my Archer to one that allows for more monitor/battery adjustments. It was several thousand dollars. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have left it just as it was. It is actually a little more time consuming to balance now that it was before.

The Archer 2 (all versions) has only been available with the G-50 since NAB. This was the most popular configuration even when the G-40 was available.

Hi Alexandre... my name is Oscar and I own an Archer 1, two weeks ago I changed my base for an MK-V genesis and kept the original post connector that allows you to collapse the sled for transport; I've included a couple of pix... good luck.
