How Many of You Operators Use/Have Used a Segway HandsFree?

I got a chance to try one out at a demo in my area that was showing the Steadicam/Segway combo, and I just think they are the neatest thing! It almost creates a stable trackless dolly.

Since joining this forum I was surprised I haven't seen any mention of them, so I thought I'd ask.

Feel free to share any stories.

Alexander,

I own both a Steadicam and a Segway. I have never bothered to convert my Segway into a HnadsFree. This is in part because I have the first generation which would require you to steer via foot pedals - a major pain in the ass IMHO. (The second generation can be modified very easily to steer with your knees and is much easier to control). This aside, the biggest problem is that Steadicam frequently requires you to track backwards and Segways are not good at this. This forces you into Don Juan (shooting over your shoulder - I gather you have not taken a workshop from your other postings which I recommend you do IMMEDIATELY) which is no fun at all. In short, I think Segways are great for live events like parades, etc but for dramatic work with resources, I'd just assume opt for a solution that involves my grip brothers (i.e. hardmounted to a dolly, a golf car, etc).

I use it with the handsfree, wich gives me more precies control. Don juan, i do them all the time. Recently did a running girl on a 85mm in don juan. Could be me, but hardmounted it was easyer for me then softmounted.

Btw, i love my segway

agree to both :) hardmount somewhat easier, and i enjoy riding segway in general :)
