Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted November 10, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 10, 2004 Congratulations on your first credit! (I knew you were just kidding, Steve, I saw the eye wink!) You have to look for the winks and smiley faces.. WARS and people have been killed just because someone missed seeing a smiley face or an eye wink! (ok maybe not killed) Doing my part to prevent war.

I shot a bunch of transition shots (wooshes, as they call them) and a bunch of background plates. Some of the Buildings (static shots) 2nd unit stuff. It's cool to FINALLY see my stuff on network primetime! Yippe! Eh, it only took 9 years. I have to add some of these shots to my reel for the next guild meeting!!! The only thing is I wished I would have had gyros for some of those really long transition shots.. and or my rickshaw. (it was being rented out to Rich Davis on Scrubs... Thanks for the rental Rich!!! ) Whew... some of those shots were as long if not longer than a football field and I had to walk fairly slow too. I was a "little" tired at the end of the day...I should say I have to give a big thanks to Daniel Stilling for that job!!! Thanks again Daniel!! I think I owe him 4 or 5 beers or dinners. I've also been working off and on a show called "McBride" starring John Laraquette (from Night court) It's kind of like "Mattlock" It will air in Jan or feb. of next year on cable if I'm not mistaken. Edit: I have nothing 'for sure' lined up at the moment :( so I can't wait till I get to use my new WK back mounted vest on a real job! I'm just using my practice cage at the moment to dial in the vest for optimal comfort. Yippee! (Wished I would have ordered it before the Vegas shoot though! ug)

I work on a little bit of everything; Indie features, Shorts, TV Series, Commercials, Music Videos, Live tv, industrial/corporate(although I haven't worked on industrial/corporate videos in a long time.) Just curious, do you have your own rig? If so, what rig and focus system?
Premium Members Steven Acton Posted November 11, 2004 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 11, 2004 Hi Steve! Just curious, do you have your own rig? If so, what rig and focus system? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi David you've asked the question ive been dreading to answer, but here goes my rig consists of a Glidecam v-16 with a dsr 570wsp and panasonic 7inch lcd monitor as far as follow focus goes -like i said im green , inexperienced , most of my money has gone on the camera. dont think ill of me i am saving like mad to own a "proper rig". with all the bells and whistles but most of my work is news and sport related at the moment so not much call for steadicam work other than the odd (work for experience ) independant feature or short. i purchased the glidecam because at the time it was the cheapest route i had into seeing if i liked steadicam operating or not -- verdict I DO!! so i hope i wont get shot down in flames and hope to meet some of you in the future at a training course .. regards Steve
Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted November 11, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 11, 2004 Hi Steve! I don't think ill of you at all. It sounds like you probably have the proper rig for what you do, bottom line. Why spend more on something you don't need? I didn't have a lens control system at first either.. Hey, this stuff is expensive.. I did attend a workshop before buying the big rig, (that is actually the cheapest way to see if you want to get into steadicam ... unless of course the glidecam is cheaper than a workshop??) Take a workshop SOON though, so you don't learn any bad habits. Other reasons to take the workshop can be found in the archives so I won't get into it here. Always do a search before asking the basic questions because 99% of the time it's been asked before.. but if you can't find your answer don't be afraid to ask either! This group can be a great help.
