For all those devastated by the election

Will,

It scares me that you find that web site so appealing. It also bothers me that you buy into and contribute to the idea that this great country is actually as divided today as it was during the civil war. True that this election and the last were very close but that means , to me at least, that democracy is strong and that we as a people still believe that our voices count for something. There are no militias being organized on any side. Over one hundred ten million people voted... WOW... Bush got the most votes EVER and Kerry got the second most votes EVER. If you believe in democracy then I think you should just except it. We voted... Bush won. Move on... I completely respect your right to be upset about it but to drag your beliefs into a "steadicam" forum in the form of "fu@$the south.com" is, how was it put so eloguently? Oh yeah... A little "Arrogant Northeast Liberal Elite" like to me.

You're right Chad. I apologise for putting this on the forum. A little late night lapse of judgement.

I suppose I saw it more in humor than anything. I have lived in the south. I am buying a house in the south in 2 weeks. I have also lived in Saudi Arabia as well as 3 other continents. My grandfather was ex-CIA and US chief of staff in Saudi Arabia in '70's when Bush sr was running the CIA in Washington. Believe me, this election goes way deeper than this country will ever know.

My apologies again. Not the time or the place.

Will

Hi guys!

Well....... for what it's worth, this is the "OFF TOPIC" section of the forum.

So, I suppose anything is fair game. Huh? Lord knows I've been pounced on a "few times." (not that Chad pounced on Will ... that much ;) )

I knew of Will's concerns about the old adminstration continuing on, as he told me and Walter about his Grandfather, while we were in Toronto. That stuff actually fascinates me. Wow! Wouldn't that make an interesting / scary documentary!?

I'll admit that I'm not a frustrated liberal. I'm actually somewhat of a conservative (middle of the road I guess). I'm actually a registered republican but I voted for Kerry (for a lack of a better option) I just didn't want to see Bush running this country again. (um... third party anyone?) Nothing we can do about it now I guess. I believe the Bush family is profiting from the war. At least thats what I keep reading and hearing. Hmm. if the country was a business that would be a big conflict of interest wouldn't you say?

Yes, we all may have different opinions but that's what makes the world go round. Through posting off topic items, you get a chance to get to know a person, there sense of humor, where they stand on things and why they stand on them. Not just whether or not they like to have a 2 second drop time or almost neutral drop time.

Just my thoughts... it's all good.

i think it's scary as hell what is going on down there. tough call. would've voted kerry, but would he have been THAT much better? still some improvement i'd think.

bush and his rich family/friends are definately profiting off this. i hear that he hasn't even attended a single soldier funeral.

alternative fueled car development/funding is being hampered (gee, could that hamper the oil industry W?) he drops the words God and prayer into every possible sentence he can to reach out to the large religious #'s in the states. not that i'm against religion at all, but i'm against somebody using it to their advantage, when they clearly do not practice that faith. when asked in an interview if he ever prayed for saddam, he answered "the thought never occured to me." those of the christian faith are brought up to pray for there enemies. he's racked up an incredible deficit... one that will only be increased with these tax breaks he's discussing. i could go on. well, not too much more, as i'm still an ignorant canadian suffering from brain freeze. :D

cheers all. sorry to have missed you david when you were up at walters. did you guys enjoy t.o? any stories to share? i'd love to hear some of that saudi history will.

Don't fret... there seems to be an enormous number of folks south of the (US, Canadian) border who seem to forget the last 4 years of this administration as well.

Gents--

Until this society and global community gets around to working towards anything but greed driven ends, this is our lot in life.

Wait, isn't that more important than anything else? LIFE, that is. When was the last time anyone out there lobbied for life itself?

Work for change but be careful what you wish for as you just might get it!

an assistant on my show had a funny observation during the last bit of the election..."the fate of the world is resting on Ohio's shoulders." Who would have known...?

Chad -- I wish I could have been on your set the day after...how was Brad? I saw him recently on Bill Maher's show.

How are you guys doing? Hi to Dom

Hey Ron,

I haven't seen the George Bush punching bag at the monitors lately. I don't think you were there the day they pulled that one out. It amazes me how blatantly insensitive people in high position can be to express there beliefs in the workplace the way it is done on our set. I put a Bush bumper sticker on the camera truck and it was torn off the next day. At the same time there is a Kerry sticker on every vehicle that has their own parking place. People have been bitching since the election that we no longer have a Democracy. I argue that Democracy is strong in the country just absent on our set.

Well in my personal post election depression [it is no secret i wanted Bush out] i have been immersed in examination of my personal thoughts and feelings.

i found these two things to have helped my journey very much

1)

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/

I was blown away when i saw all those red colored maps of the US. On election night i was working live election coverage in Philly for PBS. Later I watched CNN, MSNBC and FOX till 3:45am, the came back to watch at 7:30am, then watched from 11:00 through the rest of the day Wen.

I could never get those maps out of my head. All that red.

All that red...

Then i found this site the other day.

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/

Here you get a better view on the results of the 2004 election.

2)

Now if you think the nation is divided today, read this book:

"The Genius of the People" by Charles Mee Jr.

Maybe i am biased because i am currently living less then 8 blooks from where the US Constitution was written in the first place, but this book covers the whole process of the shaping of our country's national governmant.

It was first published in 1987-- that is 200 years after our founding fathers formed our "more perfect union"

But in reading this book i learned how that even back in 1787 our founding fathers had different interests; and they were often balancing their our personal economic interests in political matters with what they thought would be just and fair for the people.

Remember the USA was the great experiment.

I love it.

It was never thought to be perfect, and the system is set up so that we can change it.

Now in regards to the origional "@#$%# The South" post by Will, I thank you for sending in that link. I only wish it said "Screw the south" that way it would be less controversial.

I do not understad why people get mad about the content of the "Off Topic" area. Maybe we should have a vote to see if the "Off Topic" area should be removed for 2005.

Personally i like to see what my cohorts think about other topics besides gear and work, but if the majority of people think we should get rid of "off topic content", lest us do it.

Just to be extra clear on my opinion. David Grove is right... Off topic is a fine place for a post on opinions regarding the election results. But I have a problem with it being presented as "#$%@the south.com". My entire family is from Florida is of course the reason. Maybe it is my polite southern upbringing but I find that web site rude and insulting. I know it's all in fun and it's certainly not gonna ruin my day but I feel that people could have better taste in what they post. Here's an idea... How about an emotional cooling off period for post election posts? Kidding..

All the Best,

Chad

I think moving onto a new topic is a great idea.

If you are still upset about the elections.. just look to the left at my avatar, it'll make you laugh.

Here's a new topic for us....

We have a Guild gathering on Saturday November 20th in LA and we need someone with a VCR/TV combo. Yep! It's demo reel viewing time! If you have a combo TV and would like to donate it for the night please contact me or Dan Kneece.

Also bring any new steadicam gadgets for "show and tell" and old steadicam parts that you would like to sell.

Guild members should have received an email announcement. If you didn't receive an email announcement that can only mean one of two things. You aren't a guild member and need to apply OR your email address was lost when we transferred over to the new email system.

For more info.. http://www.steadicamguild.net
