Monitors in Sunlight solution

Hi all;

 

Here is my simple solution, way better than a monitor shade.

 

1) Works most of the time, you can adjust the size, and placement by simply expanding it or moving it around a little.

 

2) Use a piece of duvateen (sp?)and put some velcro on both your top stage and your monitor. Stretch the material between it. Takes about a minute to add/subtract or move.

 

3) The pictures show operating on the right side of the sled in traditional missionary.

 

4) Obviously if it gets in your way or its a very windy day it is an issue and then you can't use it.

 

I've been using this kind of thing for a very long time, now its really great with LCDs. It makes an even cheap LCD workable/useable for a much wider range of sun/light conditions.

 

It is shown with a cheap $400. LCD that does a good job with the shade shown and the brightness turned up.

Janice its nice to see a functional "low tech" solution when so many times folks reflexively think that if you want a good solution, its going to naturally be expensive.

I use a black coroplast shade on my LCD--I'll readily admit that the guys already had the coroplast on the truck but it is available online for what looks like between 6 and 20 bucks depending on the size sheet you get. Simple flap with two removable siders all held together with velcro along the edges and around the face of the monitor (plus a strip on top with a scored section on the flap). I can remove either side as required for visibility, and when I remove both sides the front folds down to protect the screen (I put velcro on the outside of the flap to store the sides). A three sided hood like this will only shield the screen from a certain amount of ambient and direct sun when it is overhead/backlit, but it doesn't hurt.

In the heat of the moment when you can't see and that 4" lens shade ain't doin' it you have to try something.

 

To quote War Games there are times when; "I'd piss on a spark plug if I thought it would help."

 

(Shown is my rental rig, and LCD which I've used on my rig on occasion and as any early idea for a rental rig I could not justify an expensive monitor on it.)
