Sounds on the sled when tilt

Hi everyone.

I mention to a problem I have on my sled when tilt. The sled is a combiancion between PRO: batterie module and D-box; Center post carbon XCS and Betz tools top stage.

When I tilt down some cracks occur. When I do not tilt up.

I'm not sure where the sound comes from, is located between gimbal and D-box.The sound may come from the carbon post but I'm not sure. Some of you have the same problem. You think of that might be?

Can you hear those scary sounds without cameras or perhaps over some specific weights???

 

Try to check the all trunnions and bearings of your gimbal!

 

Anyway... "craks sounds" it's more probably comes from the carbon fiber center post then from alluminium gimbal!

You gotta carbon center post? and never made any noise?

The gimbal is also XCS, the same manufacturer as the center post. It fits perfectly and is only a year and a half. I've never heard that the gimbal center of XCS and carbon post squeak. I cheked the connectors between parts and all are tight. I will try to tilt with little weight.

Yes, I have a 1.5 Carbon fiber center post and never heard any noises!

 

Yes, try to tilt with less weight and see what happen...

 

Check also the gimbal block.. NEVER tighten the screw!

I just had this phenomenon happen to me with a similar set-up and it freaked me out. New XCS gimbal and XCS HD center post with PRO 2 base. Pulled it apart and put my old XCS gimbal on it but kept the new HD post on there. Noise went away so I took the gimbal apart but all was tight. Called Greg Bubb who was baffled too. Began to experiment with telescoping the post in and out and got the noise to come back (with the old gimbal). Moved the post again and the noise went away. As far as I can figure it is not a creak as much as it is something in the newer style HD lemo and cabling that is clicking. I had my old XCS post for years without ever having an issue but this one has a different Lemo and wiring harness. Call Greg and let him know it is happening to yours as well. I suspect there will be an easy fix, but its not really an issue (just telescope the post in and out so the cable rests a little differently).

 

I can't be sure that what you are experiencing is the same thing but it sure sounds like it. If your gimbal is tight and the rig still flies fine after you come out of the tilt, then I suspect your issue is the same as mine.

Gents-- This sounds to me like an issue of the two posts moving "independently" of one another. Have you tried telescoping out the inner post and listening for noises? I'll wager that the inner post is moving as you tilt the sled. When two pieces of carbon fiber tubing are slid together but do not have perfectly round mated surfaces, there will most likely be some friction which reveals itself as a creaking noise of some kind.

 

Of course, I could be wrong and it's your shoe/sock combination.

Hi Alec!

Thanks for tell me about your case. Both, gimbal and post are one and a half year. Not ready for HD. I cheked all the screws and all these tight. Nothing moves in the steady and not unbalanced. I want to look more carefully because it has me baffled. I can not tell where the noise probiene.

It is an interesting theory. I will check this particular. Not like carbon responds when not properly attached, I have not designed this sled and no work with carbon materials. I'll tilt with post fully extended and fully retracted.

I was asking because sometimes I got some creaking from my Pro1 battery cage (it was the fore/aft dovetail on the lower junction box).

How the crack sounds like? metallic or plastic?

Did you check the camera for loose stuff?

Did your gimbal fingers feel the vibration when you heard the crack sound?

Hi guys! Finally I solved the problem. Which was not the reason. I removed all the D-box and side to side and when I mounted no noise was heard.

Glad you found the problem with your sled. Brant, I think you may be onto something with the carbon fiber inner post. Makes a lot more sense than the connector making that sound. I'll look into it. Thanks.
