Fabian Alexander Aust
well.. yes, just what the title says: what do you former or current master operators dislike about the rig? from the perspective of everyday real-life usage... thank you guys so much! Moderators Janice Arthur Posted October 20, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted October 20, 2010 Fabian; The Master Series came out just when "modularity" was becoming possible. It was not modular. It is hard to change parts on. Example; If you don't like the monitor it is hard to replace it. They work fine as a rig but that is the big one. If operators have them and use them they are fine rigs and work well. You as the owner have to just figure out how to be happy with them; get your money's worth out of them (like all rigs). They have become an affordable "big rig". JA
Premium Members Claus Stuhlweissenburg Posted October 20, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 20, 2010 Having dealt with Tiffen and Cinema Products going back to 1996 I would say their customer service sucks. If you buy a Master Series good luck getting parts or service for it. 2 years ago I called looking for repairs on a Master Series Broadcast and I was told that they don't have the parts for it and therefore they wouldn't be able to service it. The tech that I spoke to was fired a few months later. The smartest thing Tiffen has done in recent years is hire Peter Abraham. Friendly, knowledgeable, honest and straightforward. He has brought character to a product that previously had none. They should be kissing the ground he walks on.

I have to say I have had great experiences dealing with Tiffen with both Peter and especially Robin Thwaites, who responds immediately with suggestions and solutions with even the smallest problems I may have. Whatever the problems of the past may have been with, Tiffen, I think that those problems are in the past.

Peter Abraham, Robin Thwaites, and Jerry Holway replied to my question from email the next day. A question was about a CP product. Cheers, Ken Nguyen. Premium Members Martin Newstead Posted October 21, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 21, 2010 I have a master elite, it works just fine for me, It can fly all the cameras I use, from dvcam to RED. I still have the original green screen monitor, again working well. It is a solid big rig for someone like me who mainly does TV work, I bought it secondhand and got a pretty good deal because it was like new, the guy had really looked after it. I know in comparison to the more modern rigs out there it is probably getting past its sell by date but it still produces great shots and there is plenty of life left in it yet. I couldn't justify getting a newer rig anyway in such a small market, I maybe do two or three steadicam gigs a month and the rig is rented alongside one of my cameras as a package. Again I agree with Sanjay, Robin Thwaites and the guys at Tiffen here are great to deal with.
