Hi!

As an experienced TV guy (26 years in business) I'm producing my science reports by myself, using XDCAM/IMX (9 kg) and Sony's HDV as 2nd unit. Now, I'm looking for a stabilizer but I can't spend 15'000 Euros and more. Does anybody know whether it makes sense to go for Sachtler Artemis DV Pro? According the new Sachtler info flyer they raised the max. camera weight to 9.5 kg with the help of stronger springs, but they sell it as a stabilizer for DV/HDV. The possible alternative would be the Glidecam V-25. Any recommendations? Any experience with the Sachtler and heavier cameras? Would be very glad to get some hints...

Cheers, Roland Blaser

Hi Guys,

I have a Artemis Cine, and all I can say is that I'm more than satisfied with the rig and with the service I recived from Sachtler, and especially Curt! He always answerd to every email, and every quastion I sent him! The only problem I had with the rig is that they forgot to put in the packeage the Camera Plate screws, and they send it the next day, free of shipng charge of course!!

Regarding the voltage drop, this is normal on every rig! You cant expect to have the same runing time with the same batterie attached to the Camera directly, and powering the camera from the rig!!

Anyway Alf, what is the runing time of your camera with the batterie attached to it directly, and when the camera (and only camera, without the motors) is powerd with the SAME batterie from the sled?

regarads, igor

I get a battery warning indication on the camera almost imediately when powering through the rig. I have never had this problem with an EFP, Master or Ultra.

And this same battery, when its attached to the camera diractly, is working OK!???

If you are using cinealta (900), it has a 45W and is sucking 3, 4 Amps, and this is a lot!!

I usully work on live TV shows, and we are using camera with digital link attached, and this beast is sucking 6 Amps!! To tell you the truth, since I have only AB Proformers, I never attached the camera on the rig's power, it will work only for few minutes!! Instead of that I use Sony BPL-95 Li-Ion batteries attached to the camera directly. This is the best solution for this big power consumption cameras! This batteries are very lite, and they last abot hour, hour and 15 minutes, and the batteries on the sled are powering the monitor and FF motors, for ever!!!

I was doing a film a few weeks ago, with Sony D50 and DVcam recorder attached, viefinder on, with PS technik 35Pro lens converter, FF system, and everything had more than 35W, and my proformers, that are not in very good shape, where working confortable more than 30min. with this configuration! And I'm satisfied with that!!

To tell you the truth, I never experinced any power problem with Artemis!! I only experinced bad battery problem! :-)

regards, igor

Hey Roland

I own one, and have been using it for about any shot for the past 4 months. It is the best small rig in my book, but to bee hornest with you, the springs that you get from Sachtler with the rig... how shall I put this... is not such a great quality as the rest of the rig. What we did after talking to Curt Schaller (the designer of the Artemis system) a very nice and competent operator by the way - was deside to make a better springset on our own. So this very minute an engineer is working on a springset that lifts 9-15 kg. and fits into the Artemis DV Pro arm. The arm is a very nice piece of engineering as is the rest of the rig.

We upgraded our rig with an HD-SDI Marshall monitor, new monitorbracket and some other stuff - but it will fly your camera quite well. You need to be quite a good operator to fly it steadily - and movments are a bit more tricky than the bigger rigs.

I primarely fly a JVC HD 100 with pro X batterypack - wich with the heavier HD-monitor and large batteries gives a more stabil rig.

I know for a fact that Sachtler will be making a heavy springset for the arm - but it will not be available until IBC in Holland in september. They are also making all new springs for light and medium - because the ones on the market now are not good. They make funny noises, an put beyond 80% lift or push they have a tendency to lock...

I have tried the new prototype prings at Sachtlers shop in Munchen about one month ago - and they were MUCH better - no noise and much smoother

If you want to fly the XDCam on the Artemis DV Pro remember to buy the do donut rings (counterweights) as well - because you will need them for perfect ballance.

Hope it helps.
