YecidBenavides
Having worked in theatre and in film both in front and behind the scenes...as a techie, there's no question the bare minimum is blacks...unless you know there is NO CHANCE of reflection on the set. Of course blacks makes it even HOTTER. I've been working in a cold climate lately and that doesn't stop one from sweating, so I take more than one T-shirt... movies are not made for Op cameos...as a director that would kinda tick me off. Premium Members Iain Baird Posted June 2, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 2, 2006 In the film 'The Untouchables' there is a scene where Sean Connery's character is about to get killed. The camera is the POV of the killer as we look in through the windows of his apartment. The POV aproaches a window to open it and go inside. For a moment there is a clear reflection of a Steadicam Vest. The only reason you could see it was because the Op. was wearing a white T-shirt. Why risk it at any time I figure. Sure it's good to walk through the shot for all sorts of checks, marks - water bottles - reflections etc. etc. But regardless I change into black before any Steadciam Shot, and back to street clothes afterwards. One - it doesn't reflect as much, and two - I don't want to live in sweaty clothes when I jump back on the dolly. Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted July 2, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 2, 2006 Just because we can't see it in the green screen doesn't make us exempt from blame when we photograph half the crew. Fortunately that leaves us in the clear when we cameo the other half of the crew. :D Show Blacks. Love them, embrace them, sometimes wash them. Reflecting is inexcusable, really. I've missed a few bits here and there and it always maddens me. Twice I made it to air, but luckily one was a quick moment of me reflected in the side window of a car whipping by. The other reflection.....lingered...agonizingly......for quite a few seconds. Show Blacks wouldn't have helped- the top of my head and a bit of vest showed in a small mirror that wasnt' cocked. Why? Because I didn't do just as Charles has wisely suggested: walk your course, know your frame and make sure it's clean. I walked the shot but was more worried about shadows and hot spots and the basics of the choreography and so I didn't see the mirror. My bad, as the Operator. Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted July 26, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 26, 2006 Just saw "Big Fat Liar" Frankie Muniz and Amanda Bynes are sneaking onto the Universal Backlot and in film fashion the whole Backlot is going crazy... And there is Charles Papert, in full Steadicam montour, with a female Assistant, walking through the background, twice thanks to a double up cut. FYI: Afton it's about 20 minutes into the movie. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted July 27, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted July 27, 2006 "And there is Charles Papert, in full Steadicam montour, with a female Assistant, walking through the background" Way to go Charles - yet again. Rumor has it that the DP on "Big Fat Liar" has a soft spot for Steadicam....
Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted July 31, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 31, 2006 Now now, Alec. Never say " soft " and " Steadicam " in the same sentence. --shudder--
Premium Members Michael Tsimperopoulos SOC Posted August 10, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 10, 2007 Despite having seen "Thin Red Line" disturbingly too many times, my eye never went to the left side of the frame on that shot...It is Brad Shields with a LWII on a PRO sled. Behind him is the AC (white shirt), and another guy in blue shirt and cow-boy hat.
