Matt Burton Posted November 22, 2004 Report Share Posted November 22, 2004 Howdy, Firstly i'd like to thank every body who attended the 3 day course at bbc wood norton. Everybody was really friendly and i believe we all had a great time. In the workshop i managed to try a wide range of rigs from ultra steadicams down to the new flyer steadicam and quite a few in-betweens. As i'm looking to buy a rig asap i found the range of rigs great and have a good idea what to buy now. As far as operating goes, well i'm stoked. It was really hard going at first but on the second day all began to click somewhat. I'm feeling confident and i'm looking forward to a future in steadicam more than ever. Big thanks to jay who brought his own rig along and let everybody play. And also to robin, a great teacher and all around sound guy. Premium Members Howard J Smith Posted November 22, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 22, 2004 Hi 4mat Glad you had a good time with Robin (Hi) 'Steadicam' is a great tool - but don't forget that the main part of it is you and it is hard to replace you when it is worn out - so please take care, work out and stretch. And remember the golden rule - if in doubt say no - as chances are you will kill your self to get a shot that will 9 times out of 10 end up on the cutting room floor. 'Steadicam' can be wonderful and if you are interested (as your are in the UK) we do an advanced training course - this is a more one on one type thing going through more of the details, but if you are interested please let me know. This goes for anyone who would like to visit us (MK-V) in the UK or have the advanced training. Take care and fly safe and above all enjoy. Howard J Smith MK-V <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Howard, Thanks for the advise, I'm well aware of how easy it is to damage myself hehe. got a nasty 1mm cut on my finger to prove it aaaaw. I'd love to check out some MK-v rigs befor i decide what to buy fully, perhaps i'l take a trip down to see you soon. It has been really good to find so many UK resources heavily involved in steadYcams. I'm sure i'l take the right path with your everybodys help, and no need to visit the states just yet. The SOA course may cost a lot, bearing in mind I am in the UK and I have to get there too, but they are longer, more intensive and highly regarded. Plus you get to work with some great operators, and any workshop you choose to do is great for practice purposes. The more practice, the better operator you become.
