Klay Cook
I have some equipment that I am not all that familiar with. Basic internet searches have left me stranded and I'm going crazy. It is marked as a Preston MDR-2 Microwave Transceiver. I have no clue if this will only work with certain other equipment or what...I don't own any other camera equipment and am looking for some help....what do I have???? Junk??? Premium Members Iain Baird Posted December 16, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 16, 2010 How does one come by an MDR 2 without knowing what it is?
Klay Cook
How does one come by an MDR 2 without knowing what it is? I bought a pallet of auto parts from the USPS dead mail auction. I sometimes get some random A/V cables and accessories with the auto parts and found this sitting in it. It has MDR-2 on the side and Microwave Transceiver on the top. Looks just like the pics of one on the Preston site....I had gotten stuff before that was obsolete but it appears this is far from that....it's in good shape. I didn't want to break the forum rules as this isn't a for sale forum...it says only certain members can sell and I was just trying to see if this was worth messing with/get some feedback about what I have. I can post pics here but here are the pics, I had to peel away the velcro to see the wording, so thats all the sticky gunk thats on it. Here they are:

Moderators Janice Arthur Posted December 17, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted December 17, 2010 Hi all; My internet skeptic (IS) is high here. I'd love Klay to be legit because its a neat story. I did the MDR2 micro ..... google search and it came up Preston right away, so its not a mystery to him what it is. I also did a Klay Cook google and he doesn't come up anywhere. So why not figure out a serial number on this thing, I'd like it too.? I think Klay was afraid it would be traced to a lost/stolen thing and he'd not be able to sell it. My fear too if I'd gotten it. If he's completely uniformed how would he know to come to the Steadicam forum right off? He says "I have no clue if this will only work with certain other equipment or what...I don't own any other camera equipment and am looking for some help" He doesn't say he has no idea what it is. He says will it work with other stuff. Good luck and I hope my skepticism is all wrong. JA
Klay Cook
I am in a picture on a photography website about 4 or 5 links down on the google search....I obviously am not in the camera business...the website is actionshots4u You should find some pics of me at my real job there...which isn't a mechanic either. I contacted Preston with the S/N and they do have arecord of someone from Mexico loosing it in the US Mail and they are trying to contact him...You can google the USPS Mail Recovery Center in Atlanta as well...it's on Fulton Industrial Blvd. Hope this helps. Klay Cook
As far as knowing what it is I did have an idea....but didn't know if it had to be linked as a "System" with other comonents for it to work, etc...I also saw a retail amount for what one goes for and realize that that means nothing in the second hand business... i've received HAM radio components that retail sites have for thousands yet are obsolete and only go for slight fractions of what the "new retail" go for. I just needed an opinnion from those of you that actually know about this stuff. Thanks... Klay Cook
I have an advanced member from the Atlanta area coming to the house within the hour to test it, I'll let anyone who is reightfully skeptic know who he is by IM if it helps everyone be less suspicious. Moderators Janice Arthur Posted December 17, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted December 17, 2010 Hi all; Klay is one of the good ones. I've talked to him about his posts and so has Alfeo. Thanks. Glad he's out there. JA
Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted December 18, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 18, 2010 dag Janice... you just killed my short story I was going to write about me and my brother being at Klay's... while we where there, the law enforcement was camped out and all these guns around... then the 'Boss' showed up... Just kidding, Klay is actually a law enforcer (sheriff dept) and a gun hobbyist. The 'Boss'... well, that would be his lady that came home while we where there, he's all legit. So, about the MDR2, It does have some issues and was most likely on its way to Preston for repairs when it was lost by our illustrious United States Postal Service... buy Insurance, because if your stuff goes missing, it will likely end up in the hands of a sporting young gentleman such as Klay, looking to take chances on a treasure hunting deal seeking mission. -Alfeo
