I just got my AG-AF100 (video)

200 ISO, Olympus 14-41mm 3.5-5.6, Panasonic 45-200 4.0-5.6

 

This isn't a very controlled test. I just took the camera out for a spin. I also forgot to set the black balance before I went out, so that may factor in.

 

The camera is ver similar to Panasonic's other AG cameras, but the new feature pose for a bit of a learning curve. So far it's impressed me. I'll get more controlled tests soon.

just to confirm there is no "genlock" bnc on teh back right? So no 3D use........ (for me) Fail. I work alot in 3D and it's a must.

No, there is no genlock. I can see how that would be a dealbreaker, but I don't plan on doing any 3D so not a big deal for me. The Sony PMW-F3 will have genlock, though.

 

Here's some more test footage that took after receiving a Nikon adapter in the mail. It's just some DoF tests and low light. Download the 866mb file to see uncompressed Pro Res 422.

I found that it does have TC link via USB, sort of like how Sony Z7U does via Firewire.

Hi Pedro,

 

You could use a pair of AF-100s with a nanoFlash 3D setup to get your genlock that way but I would assume most of your gigs are for clientele that would want 10 bit 444 output. A naked AF-100 spits out AVCHD at 24 mBit with the nanoflash setup you get 422 up to 220 to 280 mBit but the colorspace is 8bit 422. Sony's to be launched S35 NXCAMs will spit out 10bit 422 through the HD-SDI jack and will be small bricks when stripped down like some of the rigs you have been sporting recently. The S35 NXCAM is slated to come out in summer of this year... or so they are saying. Finally both cameras will take PL mount lenses and the S35 will have a bigger sensor... the same one as in the PMW-F3 that is being released next month.

I just got "The AF100 Book" in the mail today (free mail-in offer with the AF100). In the book, it describes how to use the TC link function. It actually converts the camera's composite video out into a temporary genlock. This allows the camera to either to be set as master and out put it's TC signal temporarily, or set to slave and sync itself to incoming timecode. The camera then relies on its own clock to keep the timecode sync'ed.

From what I understand running the cable out of the composite channel has to make it's way to the TC link on the other camera which won't be an AF-100 as it doesn't do Genlock, so if you want to mix and match cameras to another camera with a TC link then fine. I don't think you are going to be able to fly two AF-100s with lenses, AKS and a beamsplitter on your Pilot.

I don't plan on doing 3D anytime soon. I was just sharing the information as someone had asked about genlock. From what I've read the TC link will work with any device that can I/O timecode. The only drawback is that you cannot continuously jam sync, the camera relies on its own clock once the original sync has been made.
