kurt nolen
Hopefully this is not a redundant post. sorry if it is. It looks like I'm going to be flying a PMW-EX1R on a Pilot and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to power the camera from the Sled Battery. the camera doesn't come with a double barreled power cable... has anybody run into this? I greatly appreciate the help. -kn
Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted January 9, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 9, 2011 There is a thread somewhere about making a custom cable to power an EX3 from a flyer, and a couple about custom cables to power cameras off the pilot, but I'm too sleepy to find them. Do a search for those first if you want to do something similar. There is no way to do it with the factory wiring, as there is no need for any of the cameras you might put on a pilot, including the EX1. Slap a battery on that camera and you are still under 6 lbs I think. That gives you 4 lbs to play with accessories. If that's not enough you probably need a bigger rig. Otherwise, look for the above mentioned threads. Good luck, happy flying.
Andrew Stone
Brian brings up a lot of good suggestions. His one about using the Sony battery, the BP-U30 that comes with the camera is your simplest option. It is not heavy and will run your camera for well over an hour probably two. I was thinking that too. I was hoping I wasn't just being lazy/uncreative by wanting to power the camera with its own batteries. it's nice to hear some validation. The camera these guys rented only came with one battery, which just smacked of trouble from the outset, but this is what I get for working on a self-proclaimed "sub-nano-budget" shoot... Thanks for the advice, guys. Edited January 10, 2011 by kurt nolen
