Thoughts on MK-V Genesis

Carbon is conductive, resin is not. Post resistance has NOTHING to do with the signal, or signal shielding, that is all cable and terminations (connectors)

Just sayin....

That's my point. If you have a proper shielded signal path it doesn't matter in which environment this path runs.

i have asked howard about this a year ago and i was hoping the v3+ solved it. i still have to downconvert hd to sd when people are using radios. its getting more intressting when you are using a wireless camera. becose the hd signal from the wireless is so high, the postcable reacts as antenna/conductor and spills a signal on a few frequincy's. guess what, also on 912 mhz, so i do get a signal on the monitor ( not stable though ) but cant use the bartech anymore. convert it to sd, and its all good. i hope he will find a solution soon, as i bought a v3+ for hd use. most of my work is live tv, and there i have to downconvert now> its gonna be a difficult one becose all of those ar lines, making the cable thick. i do know betz makes a new extra line for hd in the mk-v sleds, but thats a sort of permanent solution and makes it difficult to remove the bottom stage....

please do not start a war here, i just hope it helps howard to find a way, as i love my sled ( except the hd signal ) and i am sure he's working at it. I also asked for another mounting option for the monitor, as it starts to vibrate when running. The spud is just not sturdy enough for the heavuy monitor. ( thats btw not a v2 arm problem, just the way the transvideo is mounted to the rods. ) Howard is very clever, and i am not affraid there wont be an solution, becose thats what modulair is all about.

Greetings

I would like to know if any of my fellow MK-V owners have had issues with HD signal in the V3 electronics? My HD-SDI signal blacks out when ever a walkie talkie is keyed anywhere near my rig. I assume its a simple shielding issue that upsets the HD signal momentarily to my monitor. This is a real problem as an AD is usually cueing over the radio at the start of a take. Anyone else see this problem that owns a 4 stage, 2" post and the V3 boxes?

Jeff

Jeff,

I am also using the genesis these days with same issue. Using transvideo cineHD monitor. As of now I run a thin bnc from camera to monitor if reliable hd signal is needed. I'm curious if he comes up with a reasonable solution. Let me know.

Good to know Im not alone with this, I assumed it was a common problem with this set-up. I am guessing that the cable length required for the 4 stage post is pushing the capacity of the HD line within. I believe the BNC HD connectors are appropriate, I think its a cable upgrade in need??? Waiting patiently for a fix.

Mk-v mentions "The ALL NEW V3+ Post cable", do you have that upgraded?

Also i was testing my transvideo straight out of the camera through hdsdi cable, and somehow the signal wasn't really strong, tried different cables, same... maybe the issue is in the monitor? did someone try another monitor?

So I went ahead and bought the genesis. I have the v3 electronics in it. I did a test today with a red one and a 15" panasonic hd sdi monitor and ran it through the sled. The bartech caused no interference with the signal. However a cell phone that was placed pretty much on the bnc input on the top stage caused a very very tiny amount of thin pink noisy lines. No drop out whatsoever.

dont get me wrong, i have no issues with the bartech eighter. ONLY when i am using a Dcam or other wireless setup.

I have tried different monitors, i have upgraded to the v3+ cable, etc etc.

It works with the red, but i get the problems if somebody uses a radio or walkie talkie. Even a wireless mic could cause troubles. Imo its a shielding issue

Job, Im with you on this. I have the same problem. I dont think we can make it more clear. We are not talking about anything other then Walkie Talkie interference! Not BFD, not cell phones. I have tested all major HD brand monitors, several cables, I have the updated v3+, Blah Blah Blah... I have even gone so far as to connect everything outside of the rig/post. Same trouble. It's become clear that the problem is consistent with this setup. Its time for a fix.

Has anyone used the PRO or Steadirigs HD cable with a v3 yet?

Are there any issues with the cables not being compatible other than length? If your not looking to use the AR aren't they also a solution worth looking at? If the problem persists then you could look at the connectors on the stages as the culprit as was earlier speculated.

genesis has been on my wishlist with amazon for awhile now. Hoping to add it to the cart soon.

OOPS! I made a bad typo. I'm flying the Nexus these days. Same issue though so sounds to not be isolated to Genesis only. I demoed the Genesis a while back and had tons of sparkles in screen using a marshal monitor. Was told by howard it was just a demo unit and rig purchased would be fine.

ps. It feels to be back on the forum! I stepped away from steadicam for almost 2 years but i'm back ;)

hi guys,

am also having a problem with my monitor blacking out in the middle of a shot.

I have tried everything but it goes off quite often. mine is a V3 nexus upgrade.

i also considered sending the parts back to howard to have a look

when I chanced upon this thread. and thanks to Job's post, i now know to

switch to sd when it happens, thanks Job!

i hope to have a solution pretty soon as its quite hard to be confident

on a live show if it happens often. if anyone has a remedy or solution

soon please kindly keep us updated. thanks!

best,

joel

i had this problem when i was using the red and other hd cameras and down converting to sd for transmitting with my modulos

but as soon as i turned on the modulos "on" the monitor would go black so i grabbed the antenna with my hand

and the picture came back eventually i used a foil candy wrapper (cliff bar)and wrapped it around the antenna of the modulos

and the picture on my monitor came back and at the same time the directors monitor also worked via the signal from the modulos,

so a couple of weeks ago i was doing a live broadcast using hd camera wired back to the truck but as soon as

i got close to all the wireless rf gear on the football field my monitor blacked out again as i stepped away the monitor came back

i believe it is the rf signals cutting into the hd signal and i am not flying the mk-v rigs so like someone here posted there could be a leak

possibly thru the open bnc's on the rigs or the antenna effect from the post or lack of shielding,it's a mystery

but my next job with these set ups i am going to try and put some bnc terminators on the open bnc holes

never know it might work like the foil wrapper did lol whatever it takes ;)
