Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted June 14, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 14, 2011 Maybe I'm missing something here but for Triax you don't really need a "jumper" like you do for fiber jobs. What you need are a set of Kings Triax to Coax adapters and a super thin run of BNC. At least that is what I use and others use as well. The Kings adapters you can get from GEPCO Terry West or Emery Soos can make super thin BNC cables with reinforced ends. Even the micro thin Mogami 1354 works fine though delicate. Sometimes the video engineers don't care for this setup but it works like a charm. Just be sure to keep spares close by and well don't tell the engineers just plug and play and you'll be fine. Robert Robert, I have the set of Kings adapters but not the cable. My current BNC is taking "hits". The Engineer will not let me use my adapters and makes me plug straight into the back of the Camera which I've been doing for about 6 months now with this particular client and it's pissing me off!! I sent Terry West an email and PM yesterday for info on making me a couble of cables. At this point I will take ANYTHING over plugging straight in to the camera. It's killing me. I have to have a constant firm grip on the post so it doesn't "spin" on it's own. The stupid Triax is getting caught on my latches on my vest, so frustrating!! Can you make me a couple cables? I think maybe Bryan Fowler bought Papert's Triax Jumper cause he let me try it out last week and it doesn't work with an HD signal. From the picture that Papert had up it looked just like it. I've never had hits with either Terry's or Emery's BNCs or the ones I made for myself out of Mogami 2964. You can remedy the cable snagging problem by having someone sew you a "lobster bib" that you velcro to the bottom of your vest and then it pulls up and velcros to the top covering the snaps and buckles. When I had a Tiffen Ultra 2 vest this was a bigger problem with all it's buckles, knobs and plastic straps than my PRO vest now but I still use a "lobster bib". You should really try to work through this with Production and the engineer before the next job and I don't mean day-of. Get some good BNCs and test them out. Tell them you want a super lightweight jumper for Steadicam and EXACTLY how long you want it. I own two and never worry when they say no Triax to Coax adapters. The triax adapters may be loose? but 15 years of flying Triax and its as simple as trading out the BNC when there;s a break up in the signal.
