Moderators Janice Arthur Posted January 16, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted January 16, 2011 Hi all; I've had a couple of instances of hacking lately, one with a Paypal account. and its been corrected but I've got to tell you the bad guys are really working hard. (The world's hard enough without these bastards stealing what we make.) I've talked to a bunch of people and the threats are crazy numerous and the ingenuity of these guys keeps going up. So a word to the wise, redouble your efforts to make really strong passwords, change them often and check your firewire integrity etc, so it doesn't happen to you. I'm just saving you some sleepless nights and maybe worse. Be safe out there. (The stupid part is it keeps you from doing your regular productive work each day, which is truely a crime.) Many forums such as this one don't use any encryption. That means that when you login your password is sent in clear text across the network so anyone anywhere along the path who wants to can see it. This most often happens when using wireless Internet, especially at coffee shops as it is very easy for someone to easdrop. If your password happens to be the same as your. Email or your bank account the attacker can gain access to them as well. Also the address will usually show up as https:// Unfortunately a lot of sites don't support encryption or only use it if you manually enable it. Facebook recently announced that they are going to allow you to create a setting to force using encryption. People have been bugging them about this for a while but it wasn't until the founder of facebook had is own account hacked that they decided to actually do it...
