Johannes Holweg
Hi everyone, I`ve done some images of a camera-rigshaw and want to know, what`s your opinion? Does something like this exist already? specs: changeable platforms -hardmount -softmount for step-offs (special "seat" which supports the operator when going ) -bazooka-platform for use without steadicam 7 or 21 gears disk-brakes i know, the operators posture is a little bit strange ;) Best regards, Johannes
Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted January 17, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 I personally havn't seen anything exactly like that (sort of a steadicam chariot) but it looks cool. I could see an opportunity to use one. The three things that come to mind at a quick glance are: How much, does it break down and fit in my SUV and how do I do a following shot (shooting off the front). Cool idea. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 17, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 You'd better have Lance Armsrong peddaling that! As far as shooting off the front, one of the assistants on a series I did in NY last spring had this cargo bike which was huge and heavy but cool. Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted January 17, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 I have toyed with the same idea. There are three wheeled bikes that are used a lot in Mexico tha have 2 wheels and a cargo area in the front. I can't really think of any situations where an ATV wouldn't be a better option. The only real advantage would be if you could break it down enough and it was cheap enouh to always have in your kit for those times when you didn't think to order or couldn't justify the ATV. -Jess
Premium Members Ken Nguyen Posted January 17, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 (edited) Hi Gents, Since you are toying with the idea of bicycle rickshaw, here are some photos of existing rickshaws in real life. Cheers, Ken Nguyen. Edited January 17, 2011 by Ken Nguyen
Premium Members Ken Nguyen Posted January 17, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 And here are the motorized rickshaws: You can find all kind of rickshaws everywhere in Vietnam. Cost less than $400 for a brand new built! Yet, strong and safe! Cheers, Ken Nguyen.

Martin Rogberg
I have a thing built for the army about 50 years ago. Something to carry a wounded soldier behind a bicycle. Have been thinking about the possibillity to use it as a rickshaw for steadcam use. This summer i will explore if it will work.
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted March 7, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 7, 2011 This has worked in the past... Thanks Rusty!
Premium Members Tommy Stork Posted September 7, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 7, 2011 Colin Anderson has a pretty neat sidecar set-up that utilizes bicycle wheels, speed rail and a half sheet of plywood. It sets up and breaks down quickly and can be configured to either side of the bicycle. Wish I had a photo. Johannes, did you end up fabricating that conceptualization? Premium Members Thomas English Posted September 7, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 7, 2011 Ron, I see those bikes around London all the time now. Did you actually operate Steadicam off that? The cycle rickshaws that were everywhere in London where quite good to softmount on http://img3.photographersdirect.com/img/13665/wm/pd2989229.jpg I did a couple of jobs. Don Juan to shoot off behind you and 40mm+ shooting ahead and slight angle. They worked well. Although nowadays I don't like to softmount at all anymore.
