Who makes a good vest bag?

I'm looking for a bag or case to put my vest in. I've got a Model II vest right now, so I'm looking for cases to fit front-mounted vests. I recently had to do some small repairs on my vest due to transporting it unsafely (which I only bought in August... yeah, kicking myself for that!), so I'd like something with at least a little padding, to help keep things safe. I don't need airline protection yet, and weight and size are considerations for me. (I'd love to have a beautiful flight case custom made, but I'd rather not have to handle the loading of that in and out of my station wagon!)

I know that Modular 51 used to make some, Rock Steadi Gear makes one, and I could always go for a Pelican, but I'm interested to know what people have tried, and what the preferred options are.

Thanks!

Just curious what happened with your vest? I'm currently using an unpadded backpack for mine and can even take it carry-on on airplanes if I remove the socketblock. I would also like to get something padded but don't really want to lose the ability to do that.

I'm not totally sure of the circumstances, but I let someone help me unload my gear, and the next thing I know, one half of the aluminum "Y" has snapped clear off. I'm guessing that it got set down pretty hard, maybe even with something on top of it, and the stiff plastics of the back put enough stress on the metal to crack it. Thankfully I was able to find a wonderful fabrication shop who was able to fix it up for a decent rate (and as they said, probably stronger than it ever was to begin with), but it sure did teach me that I needed to be a bit more careful with my gear - or at least how it's packaged.

You could always buy the "Steadicam" branded vest duffle bag either from Tiffen or from Derrick Whitehouse if he still has them - thats where I got mine from. It works great but doesnt have that much padding in it, but Ive never had a problem with my gear travelling in it.

I also got the padded arm bag and travel my arm inside the vest, inside the vest bag on random jobs where I dont take my Pelican 1650.

For around town and on the camera truck, I use a large LL Bean bag. Cheaper, Pick your colors, large enough I don't have to re size vest to fit vest in like the Tiffen bag.(but it is not padded) My .02 cents.

When on the road I drop the bag into a hard ATA shipping case.
