Premium Members JamesSainthill Posted February 5, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 5, 2011 Charles - Best of Luck! Your steadi-reel was one of the first I ever watched on-line and I still think it's one of the best. You've made the world of steadicaming much better! Now bring home that Academy Award. Premium Members BJMcDonnell SOC Posted February 6, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 6, 2011 Charles bud I consider you as my Obi wan in the steadi community. You were the one who gave me inspiration to proceed to become a Operator and you've always been a friend. You will rock as a DP and congrats on the jump! Premium Members William Demeritt Posted February 6, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 6, 2011 I haven't known you as an operator, but as a big name in my field. Our conversations have been limited to the pro's and con's of dating strippers and funny Iranian Steadicam audio dubs, so I feel that puts me in a good position to wish you all the best! Premium Members David Baldwin Posted February 8, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 8, 2011 Afton- first of all, you've got the best logo in the game. Papert's is good. Aiken's is good. But the effin NBA logo is the shiznit. Secondly, Charles has had the misfortune of living in my neighborhood these past few years and has therefore had to deal with some strange questions and needs for a while now. It's like a teen crisis center out here. Thanks Charles. For real bro. Thanks for talking me through my first crane shot and for bringing me a downconverter to Cafe 101 on your day off and for at least ten or twelve other things. Please check in and give us some technical specs at your convenience. Dave

Premium Members Dave Isern Posted February 9, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 9, 2011 Feels like an era is changing. Charles, thanks for teaching & acting as a mentor for us Steadicam Ops. You made quite an impression on me 13 years ago and I know you've given direction to many many more. Your Steadicam legacy will linger for years to come. Your vision as a DP will open our eyes to a new cinematic world.....probably visuals with great movement! Toast to you and your future - I'm sure the best is yet to come! p.s. - I think the value of your old arm just went up..... Cheers, Dave Isern, soc www.daveisern.com

Premium Members Paul Gardner Posted February 10, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 10, 2011 When's the party? Doah! Maybe we can pass around a forty of Crazy Horse or Old English. Also, I'll bring my private stash of Thunderbird and Boone's Farms' Strawberry Hill. Moderators Janice Arthur Posted February 11, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted February 11, 2011 Charles; Nice to hear you're moving up in the world, congrats on the change; you'll do really well I'm certain. You're now officially a DP but your DNA and back muscles are altered and you're always one of us. Now your focus is the whole project and the producers. (Love to be a fly on the wall when you review Steadicam op reels for your projects; that's a seminar alone.) Loved your posts over the years and hope that those insights you've gleaned from DPing and the industry, that pertain to us, will still be written about here. Have fun and know that we all realize how wicked smart you are. JA
Premium Members Hugo_Langer Posted February 22, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 22, 2011 Charles, Congratulations on the move to DP. Reading your post brought back memories from the early 90's of my time at Calamigos Ranch where you were an instructor. I'd like to mention how much I appreciate your help with the Steadyrig arm. I remember clearly the day you flew the very first Steadyrig arm in the prep room at Panavision in LA. And later, those times with Ron B., Aiken, Christopher Ivins, John Hankhammer, Erwin, Daniel Stilling and others, when we spent hours discussing our common obsession with Steadicam. I very much appreciate your beta testing of the battery hanger and contributions to other pieces of equipment. Thanks for everything and best of luck in the future.
