If you haven't heard about these things go and google or go to you tube and check them out. Basically a one take video, usually steadicam. These things cover a lot of ground, down halls, sometimes in elevators. My question, is there a transmitter on the market that would have the power to push a signal no matter what the circumstance? The production asked me about mine and I said honestly I don't think what I have would provide a signal through a solid cinder block wall, or 10 of them! So, is there something out there? If he/she stays close, then he/she can see what they need to see. I gather that not even the higher-end transmit systems are going to fare well in the environment you describe. As for the suggestion, yep that is the game plan. Gonna have a whole mess o' people trailing behind me. Should be fun. As it turns out this world wide phenomenon started here in Montreal back in 2009. The first kids to do it go to what is called UQAM, University of Quebec and Montreal. Their video now has over 7 million hits. I think the TODAY show video is actually more known but not as watched. Thanks again Mark. Hey did you ever sell your Flyer? And I would argue that they are usually done handheld, cause most of them are from universities and other such low thrown-together situations. Amando linked to one he shot a a few months ago on the 5D on steadicam, and in December someone linked to one Disney Animation did for the movie "Tangled." Don't think we ever ID'd the operator for that. Personally, I think they're kinda awesome, and would love to do one on Steadi myself. And OT, the Director following with a monitor is absolutely the best bet. Things that interfere with wireless video: Metal, fluorescent lights, walls, other signals, humans, distance, etc... The best firm offer is from a local rental house (and some really nice young guys who work there and are chomping to get in the rig). But their deal is part trade, and I'd rather get all cash so I've kept my ads active online. Also awaiting word from Tiffen about the cost of parts to convert the compact vest back to standard. (Inexplicable delay...) I've got (one last?) gig with it this Saturday for a commercial for a Canadian radio station. Then if no one steps up with a firm cash offer I'm going with the local deal. At least I know it will be appreciated by the guys at the rental place... Meanwhile, the elves in Glendale are building my new Zephyr, delivery in a couple of weeks. Woo-hoo! Meaning probably didn't want to pay my day rate. Oh well, more work coming up anyway. I've seen a few of these videos now from all over. I'm looking hard at getting the pads customized to improve the padding underneath the chest straps. Working on a quote. Hadn't thought about extra wire drops, but interested in what you or others would suggest...I hadn't thought much about that. Yeah, whatever is available. It is amazing how quickly those things get filled and then you are using Y's everywhere. Another op here in Montreal, Amber Lomer, has a Zephyr. She loves it. Andrew Stone Posted February 19, 2011 Report Share Posted February 19, 2011 I suspect people will be flying Zephyr's with a battery mount off the back of the monitor and 1 or 2 dionics off the rear mount with a hotswap device, so two power points. You also might want to run an external recorder off the bottom of the sled to move weight down.
