asking for ideas and advices for Jeep Wrangler

Hi friends.

After a road accident with my working pick-up (it was destroyed), I´ll be change of model.

My next car will be a JEEP WRANGLER and should like some ideas or advices about working systems or gadgets....

I´ve some ones, but all experiences with this car will be welcome.

I had an '88 wrangler for six years back in the nineties and I loved it. Very fun to own and drive. I had a four-cylinder so not much power but I rarely did anything too sketchy anyway. They're fun on rocks and make fantastic convertibles. but if you're using it for work, you'd probably go with a hard-top model. ; ) I think they're considered much better vehicles these last few years than some of the models from the 80's and 90's. Stick a wench on it and you should be able to get yourself out of most jams. As long as there are trees around at least.

Have fun with it and definitely get the Russian arm mod. Put it right next to the flame thrower.

Armando, Those Jeeps are very nice, I believe if it's the one pictured, The 4 door model, you can get the hard top and still remove the top with just a TORX driver, You can probably have a machinist make you a hard mount clamp for the rails.

Also, If you get a winch and get stuck offroading and there are no trees, Make sure you have a spare...and a shovel... Take the winch out as far as it will go Minus like 5 wraps on the core(increases the pulling strength) Dig the spare upright in the ground completely with the winch cable attached to the rim, pack the dirt, soil, Mud back on the tire, whala, a mobile pulling attachment point. make sure you always winch with the Hood Up to protect you from a flying chunk of something! and Wrap a floor mat on the cable, so if it does break, it will tend to drop straight to the floor, instead of sending the hook, thru your front and back window...I've been there when it's happened to a fellow offroader!.

Get synthetic winch line. It is much lighter, won't rust or fray, it floats, and most important it willl not kill you if it snaps. Buy tbe right gear the first time and you are set (much like steadicam). There are so may aks available for jeeps you will have no trouble outfitting it to suit your needs. I suggest checking out (and drooling) www.expeditionportal.com for some great ideas for overlanding. If it is rock crawling for you tben hit pirate4x4.com .

 

Get your checkbook ready. It's as addictive as steadicam to xeck out but doesn't make any money for you...what do ylu do? Dump more money into it!

And as far as a russian arm on a jeep...are you high?

 

 

Maybe on caffeine, I do drink wayyyyyyyy too much coffee sometimes, I guess my little smiley at the end didn't make it clear that I wasn't remotely serious?

Congratz on finding a wrangler anyway, if petrol wasn't so extortionately expensive in England and I could justify a second car right now, I would buy one in a heartbeat, certainly on my list of cars to own before I die :)

I was kidding as well -- I did get a chance to look at the Mercedes as well as the Cayenne with those arms on them and the damn things didn't even have roll cages or beefed up roofs!! I can imagine the roof ripping off (or god forbid collapsing) in a sharp turn or evasive maneuver with all that weight up there. I couldn't believe it.

Yeah looks pretty scary, i've seen the pics too, don't think I'd want to be in the driver/passenger seat of one of those if/when it all goes tits up.

 

Some kind of scaffolding, tube based, seat/vehicle mount conversion for the rear would be awesome for sure, I know the guys at optical support over here in the UK have made something which mounts to a rear tow bar quite nicely with a seat and everything.
