Dan Maxwell Posted March 3, 2011 Report Share Posted March 3, 2011 Hey All, This is my first post and I know I am revisiting an old topic, hoping for some new info as old post is a year old. I have just bought a PRO 2 which I have worked as an assistant with for over a decade. Now as an operator I am in the HD land and not the film orientated world I feel comfortable in. I have had a 'Y' cable made which splits between the camera power and auxiliary power, to run an F23 with an SSR. I have Hytron 50's which have been recently recelled and fully charged. Basically it seems that this set up is draining my bottom camera battery fast and leaving the top auxiliary battery pretty much untouched. Is this due to different gage wire through the post? I have read through the older post which referenced the Dionic 90's and the mention of Diodes. Has anyone had any experience with the Hytron 50's. I am guessing most of you are going to say buy updated batteries, but I need to see if I can find a cheap option to get me through the next couple of months. As I mentioned this is my first ever post, and I don't just mean here on this forum so am looking forward to hearing from those with more knowledge than I. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted March 3, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted March 3, 2011 Dan, Silly question, but are you using the correct front battery assignment block and is the 12/24 switch in 12 Volts? Using the Y-Cable should place the batteries in parallel. Your batteries should also be in similar condition and at a similar state of charge else one will charge the other. Try contacting Paul Dudeck at Anton/Bauer and explain your needs and gear package and he can suggest a package that will get you going and not break your bank. You need Dionic HC's I believe Dan has said he does not wish to purchase updated batteries at this time (but it's true, those are the wrong batteries). I experience the same thing when running a Genesis or F35 off only 2 batteries and the Y cable: the bottom battery always drains first. If you can not power the gear, how do you make the day? At least I have offered a contact that has the knowledge and supplies to make a solution happen. Back in the day when I bought my first rig, the first update was new batteries and a new A/B mount for my Model 2 sled. Just have to have reliable power for the gear. Period. Dan Maxwell Posted March 7, 2011 Author Report Share Posted March 7, 2011 Thanks for the replies guys, and you are all right, I know I need to get the Dionic HC's. I am using the 12/24 jumper block with the sled switched to 12V. The short term solution is to use a Anton Bauer to V Lock adaptor and use the large stock of IDX V Locks that the rental house has. The problem we face here in Australia is that no rental company has Anton Bauer batteries so I will have to wait until I can afford 6 or more Dionics.
