Arri 2C - pistol grip

I am fairly new to steadicam - my questions is about how to fly a 2C - but this is the hard part - has anyone mounted a 2C on a steadicam with either the Pistol Grip or the High Hat it comes with - and not with the $7000 CE flat base oe Cine 60 base-

Any ideas - I would imagine it would be possible to drill the high hat with a second hole then mount it on a base plate and attach that but the camera would be really high and would require quite a high pivot point to keep the vertical balance.

THe lens control and Video assist are sorted

thanks

Hey Rolfe,

Clive Tobin makes a flat base for the arri IIC which is much less that 7000. You can google for his website. CP and Cine 60 both made flat base motors that you can find on ebay from time to time at very low prices. These motors are not as elegant as the CE flat base motor but they beat

the old Wolf - Sachtler " hi-hat" solution for mounting that style of IIC. Can't you just rent a flat base for your steady days?

Aside from the balance issues of moving the camera up that high I'd be concerned about the vibration being induced from moving the camera that far away from the top stage.

Good luck with your problem.

Arriflex, Cine 60, CP and others made flatbase adapters for the 2C. Essentially a gearbox, it moves the stalk motor (aka handgrip) to the dummy side of the camera. You use the same motor, just move it out of the way.

If you do use the old hihat adapter, note that it has threaded holes in the base to fit it to a tripod or in this case your sled's plate. But the tiedown between the camera and the hihat is fairly weak and at the back of the camera where flexing can occur in movement. Use some webbing or strapping to cinch the camera tight to the hihat. Good luck on mounting a focus motor!

  • 3 months later...

Well - I finally found a decent Cine60 base (after almost 5 months) from Visual Products. While I wait for it to be shipped here (with a sliding base plate)

Does anyone have the exact or rough weight of a fully loaded Arri 2C, 400ft mag, film, cine60 base?

Does anyone have any recommendations or advice for flying the 2C on a budget. Things to look out for, power issues, balancing, recommended rigs

thanks
