Premium Members Joel San Juan Posted May 4, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 4, 2011 Hi All, Recently tested out the Zephyr and this combination is the total maxed out weight for the arm. Its 24.2lbs and any weight after this, the arm feels extremely locked up. Its just a mock up of things we can throw on and wasn't for filming purposes. Will post one more pic of my AC trying it out in low mode. Realized that there's no docking ring when in low mode. Wondering if its only this sled or do the rest of you not have it too. Next couple of things to get would be the low mode package and Red power cable Best Joel

Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted May 8, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 8, 2011 Joel, Thanks for the pictures. Is that a Tiffen HD monitor on the rig or a 3rd party unit? If Tiffen, did they provide any specs? Can you snap some closeup photos and post them?
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted May 8, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 8, 2011 That's a Marshall 651STX. http://www.lcdracks.com/monitors/V-LCD651ST-3GSDI.html I've got one on my rig, I really like it.
Premium Members Dave Wowchuk Posted May 8, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 8, 2011 I have the same one too. It works very, very well. Modified the wiring harness on my Zephyr (SD version) to change the 12v barrel connector to XLR, and the video cable to BNC.

Premium Members Joel San Juan Posted May 9, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 9, 2011 Hi Mark, Yup its the one that Tom pointed out. This is the HD monitor that comes with the Zephyr HD package. It has the Steadicam logo on the monitor itself. Its quite an awesome monitor and any time the one on my bigger rig goes down, I can just switch it over :) I guess I need to get a right angle HD/SDI cable so it wouldn't stick out too much. Have you tried going low mode with your Zephyr? How have you been able to dock it? I keep finding myself docking it the right side up. Cheers! Premium Members Dave Wowchuk Posted May 19, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 19, 2011 The 6.5" Marshall STX is great in sunlight. Shot for 5 hours outside today with the sun directly over my shoulder. Had no problem with the monitor. BTW, if the HD Zephyr comes with the 6.5" STX, save yoru money and buy the SD version, then buy the HD monitor separately. B&H sells the monitor for about $1800, as opposed to the $3000 upgrade to the Zephyr HD. DW
Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted May 19, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 19, 2011 Dave, Thanks for the field report. Saw an HD Zephyr at Showcase Atlanta last week. The HD monitor supplied was a Marshall V-LCD70XP-3GSDI. This is their latest non-transflective, 450 nit 7" monitor, not the 6.5 transflective. It's Steadicam branded but displays the Marshall model number. Around $1000 if you bought one direct from B&H. Don't know if Tiffen has modified the monitor in any way. So, to clarify, it appears that the Steadicam-branded HD monitor on Joel's rig is the 7" non-transflective 450nit (a beautiful image and very nice features but not a true daylight monitor), rather than the 6.5" you have. Still good advice to buy an SD rig and buy the Marshall 6.5" separately. There is a brand new version of the 7" monitor (don't recall the model number) that has a high-bright 800nit panel, but no transflective. It's about $200 more than the 450nit version. Another option. Don't know if Tiffen has modified the monitor in any way. The Steadicam Branded HD Transvideo monitor that Tiffen sells HAS been modified by Transvideo for Tiffen. One of the most important modifications, that you will not be able to get in the stock Transvideo version, is that the LCD has been inverted for better viewing in a downward angle. I don't recall what other mods have been done to the Steadicam Branded Transvideo... ask the Team Tiffen.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted May 19, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 19, 2011 I remember Marianne telling us we were all looking at the monitors wrong, and that we should mount them straight up and down for viewing and better balance. That was a fun time on the forum.

Premium Members Ryan Rodinis Posted July 31, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 31, 2011 Mark, based on the photo of your Zephyr monitor over at the dvinfo thread, I think my zephyr has a different monitor.
Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted August 1, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 1, 2011 Do you have an SD or HD Zephyr? Post a pic of your monitor, I'm curious whether they changed monitors, and to what.... I replaced my SD monitor with a 7" Marshall 800nit HD-SDI unit. Quite happy with it, I did have to have a custom power/video cable made but that wasn't a big deal. Terry West made me one.
Premium Members Ryan Rodinis Posted August 1, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 1, 2011 (edited) SD Zephyr. along with the Zephyr manual, it came with a separate monitor manual: front of the book gives p/n LIT-602750. says the AV1 input is a 9pin DIN connector. the DISP button cycles options: Full, Normal, Wide, Zoom. the SEL button cycles: Brightness, Contrast, Color, Tint, Dimmer, L/R, Up/Down, Safety, Default. manual shows a Remote, but I haven't seen one yet. no mirror function. and the kicker, the specs: 1440 x 234 (480x234) 400nits (Typ) 65 deg viewing angle L/R 40 deg top 65 deg bottom Power Consumption 5W (12V / 0.4A) Not sure how much you remember of your Flyer monitor, or your SD Zephyr. I was planning on getting an HD monitor at some point. Edited August 1, 2011 by Ryan Rodinis
