Hi All, I must first say that I have a custom manufactered rig. Last night as I reveiwed my footage I noticed that my footage was swaying from side to side. As I shot it I didn't see it. Is this a technique issue or am I missing something on my rig. My rig is very simular to the Glidcam V-16

Hi,

Sounds like something in your balance isn't right.....? If your rig is dynamicly balenced you shouldn't have this problem - if you can't dynamicly balance maybe try a slower drop time so that the rig doesn't swing like a pendulum? Or maybe you are griping the post to hard and overcompensating your movement?

Practice, Practice, Practice :D

Provided that your rig is able to be adjusted into a static balance, e.g. it will float vertical without toutching it, most of the swaying will be introduced by YOU, yor body and hands.

Try this: walk only straight forward or backwards, hold the gimbal only and see what happens. If it starts swaying, most likely you have a side-to-side swing in your walk.

This can be in your footwork and also in your upper body.

Also, a bottom heavy rig wil start to swing and get worse with every step, try a longer droptime, like 4 or more seconds.

Hi Jay / chaps

As Rob said (Hi) and -

This problem is mainly caused by the arm to vest junction - if this is not correct then everytime you take a step the sled will want to shoot away from you to the side (or come towards you, but this is very rare). This is the most important adjustment of the system, you can tell if it is not correct, stand in a mirror (straight) and let go of the sled (be careful as it might shoot away from you) if it does then you need to adjust the arm to 'lean' the other way to the drift. It is also important that your vest is tight and does not lean or shift as you walk as this will also have the same effect. Also correct front to back as if this is not correct then the sled will either come towards you or more comonly away from you, this means you will be holding on too tight to control it.

When it is all correct you can do the shot without even holding the sled. (no more sea sickness!)

Hope this helps

All the best

Howard
