Premium Members matthew pearce Posted April 28, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 28, 2011 I'm hoping to get another couple of years out of my Pro 1 base. I very rarely power the camera thru my sled any more so the need to up grade seems less apparent. I did however just do a Genesis job. I was able to use a Panavision "Y" cable and flying with an SSR I was getting 8 to 10 minutes out of the Choc's. (lots of inconvient powering down and rehearsing with a cable/block) I know I can recell and get better times which I'm about due to do. It was also suggested to me that I can mount an AB gold plate on my Base and power directly to the camera. Many have done it and it seems a serviceble stop gap as long as you can deal with the cable running up the out side of your post. Another idea that was floated was mounting an AB gold plate on the front of my battery base and wiring directly into the "CAMERA" power terminals and sending the increased power up thru the sled. Jack seems to think the line loss will be negligable, the weight shouldnt be a problem up front because I'm flying a Mark V monitor and if the over all weight increase is a problem I can always pull the choc bar for the camera. To me it seems a great way to give some additional power to AMP heavy draw camera's with out having the external cable to figure out. I know this is old news to many but I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious or if any of you guys who have already given this topic a lot of thought want to add any insight? cheers PS - I would love to upgrade to the new pro system but the cost of a new base/batts and chargers is pretty steep right now, it does look good though
Premium Members James Takata Posted March 4, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 4, 2012 It works! How to convert your Pro 1 battery cage to marvelous Pro 1.5: - Two Anton Bauer Compact Gold Mounts wired to Aux and Cam. - Chocolate bars power your monitor and can be used with the ABs to hot swap or give you extra juice. That's right, you can use 1-3 chocolate bars simultaneously with ABs. - Diodes installed to keep the AB and Chocolate Bars from messing each other up. This is my rig set up to fly Alexa with Camwave, Preston, & modulus. No issues. No more worrying about amps, power, etc. Thanks to Matthew Pearce, Justin Browne, and Jack at Panavision Hollywood for their advice and help.
