MartinKunert
If this topic has been covered before -- sorry. I did try looking. I ordered a flyer with a v-mount, and 2 IDX Endura e-80s batteries. The dealer sent a Flyer with Anton Bauer mounts. So the question is.... what are the best batteries to get for the Flyer? Should I trade out the Anton Bauer mount flyer for a v-mount, and use the Enduras. Or keep the Flyer, return teh Enduras and get some Anton Bauer batteries -- if so, what are the best batteries to get? Any advice is deeply appreciated, as I a babe in the woods on this... Thanks Martin Kunert BOOYA STUDIOS
bobgilles
I like the Anton Hytron 50's for the flyer, they have a fuel gauge and it adds a great feature without modifying the rig. I really dig the 24 volt version that Garrett designed for use with the Arri 235, but they will not sell it without the pricey HD monitor ( total cost; $12K) yikes! " Now that is stupid. Never seen a 24 Volt HD camera or a film camera with an HD tap. What if you already own a monitor? All our manufacturers should know that the best business model is to sell us whatever pieces we want. Customer service combined with innovative, quality products is the way to win. Anyway, I like the sound of a Flyer with a 235 on it. What about focus gear and transmitter? All smiles.....
Premium Members Mikko Wilson Posted February 13, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 13, 2005 So hang on.. Is there a HD Flyer then? I was thinking of getting a flyer for learning with pretty soon, but the only problem i have with it is the tiny thin post. Anybody know of a suitable replacement post i could use with a bit of dare i say girth to it ? The one flyer i tested at a workshop developed a nasty squeek in the springs/pullys area (must have been some moisture perhaps).

Premium Members Mikko Wilson Posted February 15, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 15, 2005 4mat: My (school's [i hate having to say that.. i wish it was actually mine]) Flyer is dooing great.. I fly the Sony FX1 HDV on it and it's sweet.. i also fly XL1s and PD150s.. and even a Hitachi V21-W (large format DVCAM) on it and it just keeps working! I like the thinner post.. it tells my fingers that i have to be gental with it.. :-) - And I even managed to get a 3rd little thin cable down through it for a tally light (think Peter's tally system) without too much trouble. I really can't praise it enough! Charles: Spotted your first response on DVInfo.. Thanks! Say hi to the folks at Tiffen for me. - Mikko
Premium Members Mikko Wilson Posted March 10, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 10, 2005 A "HD" rig has a monitor that can accept a HD signal (component - generally 720p or 1080i). The standard flyer is NOT HD. - the monitor just accepts regular composite (SD) video. I was asking if there was a version of the flyer with a HD monitor It is possible to connect a HD camera to a SD monitor, but you need a down-converter to make the HD output from most HD cameras SD for the monitor. However the HDV cameras (JVC HDVsomething, and the sony FX1 and Z1) - which some argue arn't really HD cameras because they compress and record to MiniDV - have built in downconverters. These cameras do have a HD Component output. But they can also output regular SD (as component, s-video, or composite) which works just fine with the regular Flyer (and any other SD monitor). - Mikko
