Premium Members Rupert Nel Posted May 23, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2011 Hey guys, I just joined the steadicam forum. I am so glad that I am able to get so much useful info here. I am new to steadicam and I am looking to buy my first rig. I have done a lot of research and I have spoken to a few operators here in Cape Town, South Africa. I am considering to pay a bit more for a good 2nd hand rig that will be able to handle a large range of cameras. I don't want to be turning down jobs a year from now because of the weight lift capacity of my rig. I would be more than happy to start with a old rig, as long as it is a good solid rig. I am looking for a complete setup. I have been looking at a EFP kit, does anyone have any info for me regarding this unit? If anyone know of someone that is looking to sell their spare rig, please do let me know. I can't pay anything more than $15000. Any feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks very much. Premium Members Caleb Ennis Posted May 23, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2011 Hey Rupert welcome! I would take a Steadicam class before you invest in a rig. You may take a class and decide its not for you. If you decide it is for you then you will know exactly what you want and need. Premium Members Haris Pallas Posted May 25, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2011 Dear Rupert hallo, I am also new to the forum but not to the steadicam world. I am using for nearly 3 years now a Steadicam SK2 and I am very satisfied as it is my first rig from the big league..The SK2 arm can handle cameras from 4-10 kg but I also have a second arm that can hold cameras from 10-20 kg.I bought this second arm a few months after I bought the SK2. So with this combination I can work with cameras from Canon 7D up to RED,ARRI,Sony F950,Broadcast,16mm film cameras and even with some 35mm cameras.. I am thinking of selling my beloved rig for something newer and more expensive now that I am gaining money and better jobs and the price will not exceed the amount that you are willing to pay. You can email me if you are interested, Thank you and welcome to the amazing world of ground flights! - Haris - haris_pallas@yahoo.gr www.artboy.gr www.12bynight.gr

Premium Members Haris Pallas Posted July 14, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 14, 2011 Hallo Josh, I was very lucky to bumb into a modified Flycam arm (made by Hugo Langer from Silver Spring Arm Company in Australia) that was specially adjusted for the SK2 vest and gimbal. It can take the lead when the original single spring arm capacity ends so we are talking about 10-20 Kg loads.Very nice and strong construction and one of a kind! Are you searching to upgrade yours? - Haris -
Premium Members Andre Trudel Posted July 15, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 15, 2011 (edited) I agree with the workshop advice. There are a lot of options these days but, the efp is definitely a great rig. There are many posts on the forum about this rig that you should read. The great thing about the efp is its modularity. Since owning mine I have made mods and upgrades but, I had flown everything from large eng cameras to Arri Sr’s stock. The modification options are practically endless and there are company’s out there that already have plug and play upgrade options for most, if not every part of the rig. A huge plus is that the rig has “standard” professional parts that are interchangeable with most of the reputable company’s around the world. Things like a 1.5’ center post, standard socket block size, etc. As long as the arm is in good shape you can switch out the springs with rig engineering, Luna, or even just 3A if you’re concerned over weight issues. I have yet to max out my stock efp arm and I have flown quite a few Red’s. I have been thinking of selling my trusty efp because I have a pro sled and vest now but, I’ve been hesitant because I only own one arm. I would be willing to part with the rig if the price was right. I could put that money towards a new arm. Let me know if you’re still in the market.
