Hi all,

I am looking for a well looked after steadicam rig.

I basically need the complete setup to get going. I am at the beginning of my steadicam career and I need to buy my first rig.

I am looking at a rig that will be able to fly a large range of cameras, because I don't want to be turning jobs down because of weight lift capacity, so it needs to be a good solid arm as well.

I can't spend more than $16000. If there is anyone that wants to sell their spare rig or looking to upgrade and want to sell your current rig, please do let me know. It will be much appreciated.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Have you cruised the ads herein the marketplace? $16K is about half the cash you need for a worked second hand rig

Let's break it down and look at minimum prices

Arm $8K

Suit $3K

Monitor $2K

Sled $12K

Batteries and Chargers $4K

Cables, Docks and Misc $2K

$31K and that's if your lucky

Then of course you need a follow focus, motors cables and ton more stuff.

Just to give you some perspective I have over $15K in CABLES alone....

Hey guys,

Thanks for your reply and info regarding prices.

I am looking through the marketplace everyday and I realize that steadicam gear is not cheap. I was still hoping that something will come up though.

I managed to find an EFP rig upgraded by MK-V, with monitor,EFP upgraded vest,3AB batteries, PAG charger and a 3a arm within in my budget.

Is this not worth going for? The rig still looks in good condition.

If it is not worth going for I will save some more to be able to buy a decent rig.

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Rupert Nel

Dear Rupert hallo again,

Just a reminder for my SK2 rig - It's in exelant condition,in the money range that you are looking for and my second extra arm will let you fly the big cameras too...

Thank you,

In that budget range, I think is maybe your only decent option. The EFP is a workhorse and if it's upgraded should fly much better than the original. Will fly also heavier cameras compared with other rigs in that price range. Make sure what springs are in the 3A arm in order to check what your weight range will be. Usually an EFP should be coupled with an EFP arm, which differ from the 3A just in the springs. Consider also that the weight limit will be dictated by the gimbal and topstage capicty.

Good luck

Haris, there's a dedicated place on where to advertise the sale of your rig, it's the steadicam marketplace.

Moreover, Rupert is clearly looking for a rig capable of flying heavy cameras. The SK2 is not in that range. Even if coupled with another arm, the sled won't cope with heavier weights than what has been engineered for.

Cheers

Hallo dear Fabrizio,

Thank you for the post...

The SK2 with the extra second arm that I have - especially engineered by Hugo Langer (Silver sring company in Australia) - can hold up to 20kg loads and I have tested it.

Of course that happened with an extra dead weight that I have especially made for the lower part of the sled. And it floated perfectly.

Thank you again,

Is the gimble and the topstage that will not cope with double the weight.

Good luck
