Premium Members Tim Wu Posted October 21, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 21, 2013 Oh jeez, I may not get that Marshall then if it seems like its burning out is inevitable... Should I risk it? Or any suggestions for monitors in that sub 2k price range? I'd ideally love the DP7HB but 3k is wayyyyy out of my league at the moment D:
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted October 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 There is always an AC7 with a sunshade.
Premium Members Tim Wu Posted October 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 I love SmallHD (have had their DP6 for ages now) but it's soooo horrendously reflective. Played around with the AC7 on another shoot and it's equally reflective, no?
Shawn Bosley
I've had the Zephyr for a little over a month. I've had a Merlin 2 for about a year. I went to the 2 day workshop in October and had a chance to work with the Zephyr there before buying one. I really like it. I have had some monitor issues with the Steadicam version of the Marshall V-LCD70XHB-3G-SDI. Within a couple of weeks, the HD-SDI port stopped working. The analog video still worked. Steadicam sent me a replacement really fast. The new monitor (same model) is kind of strange. The HD-SDI syncs up very well in the beginning, but then after about 20 minutes when the monitor has warmed up, I have to power it off and on again to resync with the camera when I go between menu modes on the camera. Has anyone else had these issues? Other than the monitor, everything else is great! I'll get some pictures of setup soon.
Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted December 3, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 3, 2013 Shawn, scroll up the thread and you will see some other issues with Marshall monitors. Sounds like your replacement monitor is faulty as well as your original. You shouldn't be having the problems you are having.
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted December 3, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 3, 2013 Yes, I've had some issues with the HDSDI board on this monitor as well. My rig being out of warranty I contacted marshall directly who fixed the monitor for free.

Shawn Bosley
Thanks for the replies... seems like there might be a bit of a QC issue with these monitors. Well, at least I have another 10 months left on the Steadicam warranty to get a monitor that works consistently :-)
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted December 5, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 5, 2013 Also one quick note. I have been told by the guys over at Marshall to plug the monitor prior to powering the camera etc. and to be careful not to have your BNC connected to the monitor touching the ground when building the rig. The thing we are trying to avoid is a static discharge to the sensitive board. I know it's not a solution but if you can be careful it might let your monitor live a bit longer. Premium Members Rogerhaugen Posted January 8, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 8, 2014 Hi! Anyone tried this sled with the g70 arm as a light sled? Is it possible to buy just the sled from Tiffen? Roger
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted January 8, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 8, 2014 There is no benefit of having this sled with a stronger arm. The center post being thinner than the standard 1.5 in it start vibrating when it gets overloaded a bit. Besides, the socket block and the gimbal post are smaller than the norm. Thant is why Tiffen sells the sled with the arm+vest as a package.
Jorge Novoa Royo
I'm from Spain and owner operator of a zephyr. Wear with almost three years and each time I am more happy with the rig It's my first rig and with which I have been slowly discovering and learning the profession At first I was a little scared because I did not know where I could get up capacity rig and now I can say it's amazing as much as I've been flown to the sony 900r with matebox and follow focus and note that the rig does not suffer if it is true that this was their limit Sorry about my English
Premium Members Stephen M. Lucas Posted May 4, 2023 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 4, 2023 Reviving an old thread to see if anyone has experienced issues with the Trim controls for their Zephyr. I work with students; we have three Zephyr rigs, two of them brand new. The trim knobs were extremely tight out of the box, I figured they'd loosen up with use, as my M1 felt that way at first. But now one of the Zephyr's side to side adjustment trim was prohibitively tight and has now frozen up completely. I've reached out to Tiffen, but in the meantime I've curious if anyone else has experienced this issue. Cheers~
