Please take the class then get back to us. We're (I'm) trying to be respectful but I'm beginning to hate seeing your name pop up. I thrilled you're so excited but by the time you buy a lot of this info will be dated anyway. Another option is to find some operators in your area, buy them lunch and talk to them. Sorry if that's too many, but I was told by several operators that workshops do not cover these types of things. I already chatted with ops, both in my current and future locations, but Unfortunatley their monitors, batteries, etc don't make sense for me price wise. I've done all of my research to the best that I can, but the forums are difficult to navigate, and if I were to read every single post on the forums (as somebody suggested), I would be too old by the end to hold up the rig. This thread talks about a product that hasn't been discussed here before. By answering it, somebody then provides an answer to anybody in the future who may be wondering the same thing. But Ill gladly refrain from asking any questions again if somebody can prove that there is a better way out there to find out about this particular kind of battery than by asking here. Cheers.. You're missing part of the point. when you take a class you do find out lots of answers without even knowing it. Batteries, Anton-bauer or IDX. No one has others that's what you'll see. If you want to try those go for it. Its the same with monitors etc. you'll absorb lots of info from your fellow class members too. We, those who have tread here a lot, see lots of "newbies" and we've helped thousands. For us its sometimes a mind-bending to keep seeing the questions. Pace yourself, take a class and get back to us. Anyone think I'm unfair, let me know. (I'll make you nuts, us really gray-haired veterans had to learn all this without the internet, just try that thinking about it that way; so that's why we're (I'm) cranky. As someone who just finished a lot of my own research on batteries, I can attest that no one on the forum has commented on Hired Gun, as far as I know. The Hired Gun Video batteries seem to be a rebranded generic battery, judging by the language on their website. Search for battery threads and you'll find some who won't touch anything less than Anton Bauer or IDX, some who have been happy with generics or recells, and some who have tried recells or generics and felt burned. Many different opinions and experiences. You may not get something definitive. Generics abound, some better quality than others. Several folks have favorably mentioned Global Media Pro. Other than that it's not easy getting specs or detailed information. My suggestion is to call Hired Gun directly and ask for the names of satisfied clients. If they're willing to provide some, call or email those clients and ask for their candid opinions. As for the big picture, Janice's response is wise and worth keeping in mind and you go forward. The information that is generously shared here was hard-won. You, like me and other relative newbies, are asking for the answers from the generation of operators who had to invent the answers out of thin air. As for the AB or V-Mount, the mount is a matter of preference I have been using the Ansso and the Global Media Pro 90, 190 and now the new 230 LI batteries and the dual chargers, the quad charger is cheaply made. Be advised anything over a 90 is not legally allowed to be flown on an airplane. I have been vey happy with the quality and run time of my batteries, my 190's have been used weekly for years and they still have very long run times. If I run two 230's now, run time is incredible. Hope that helps Questions are good, don't get discouraged, just be specific about the question, Janice and other "Grey Haired veteran" operators that didn't have internet and learned the hard way are a wealth of information and deserve respect for paving the way for newbs. I've suggested that Alex search the archives and he retorted that he "Doesn't have the time to read the archives", That's when I wrote him off. I've had more than a few people email mail and message me basically your opinion of Alex with most asking where the IP tracks back to and wondering if it was Connecticut! He doesn't get it, he wants to be spoon fed the answers and then he thinks he's going to buy his budget dream gear and set the world on fire. He doesn't understand that you go to "School" research your brains out, make industry connections with working operators and then you work your way up thru small no budget no pay stuff (Because honestly you're not good enough to go out and get paid from work fresh out of a workshop) to stuff that pays. While it would nit appear so from the four (yes four,( my thread about cables was really meant to be a friendly discussion, not a self serving question) questions, I have hundreds more, which have in turn been answered by previous threads in the archives, pm messages, and operators in my current and future locations. However, as much as in would like to have found an answer from an operator, or from a thread, operators that I can talk to use batteries that are far to expensive, and there was not a single thread on this forum discussing these batteries. I realize that you, Eric, and others learned without answers, but I have limited funds and time. I already dedicate my time for almost the entire day to working at my current day job, and working my way through one of the most complex immigration systems in the world. If I make a mistake and buy bad batteries, thats it. I own bad batteries. No more money left to go buy better ones, no more time left to try to tweak them. I need to get it Ruhr the first time. But you should know that I made a big list of questions, and there were only five left by the time I was done talking with people. I posted them all, and now I hope my next post will be thanking everybody for their help, and sharing my success story. Eric, your posts, to quote "Happy-with-MK-V-Eric", 'show an agenda'. You aren't just annoyed with my few questions, you don't like me because I still believe in MK-V. Well I don't believe that somebody with a glide cam should advertise themself as a Steadicam operator, but if I were ever in a position to help them, I would do it gladly. It's ironic, really, that you love XCSbecause they bend over to help operators, but you seem to have a moral issue with doing that yourself. I've seen your posts, nit just in my thread but in others too. You don't answer questions, you criticize and plug XCS products. You shuld also know that I care nothing about what you think of me. There are a very limited number if ops on this forum that I would ever consider meeting, and as for the rest, they can think what they like. Cheers to this of you who did answer my simple question. With that new info, I can complete my research. Rob, you are spot on with your suggestion of being an assistant. I'm already doing some searching for an op to attach myself to. I was in the position of being booked on my first job where a Rickshaw might have been necessary last week, having never sat in or used one before (despite having seen them in use a couple of times), I had to ascertain whether it genuinely was a requirement for the job at hand and also I wanted to look into the type of shots that had been achieved on them previously along the lines of what I was considering using it for. Needless to say after trawling through all 27 pages of the operating segment of the forum I found a wealth of rickshaw related knowledge, including this little gem: followed by the subsequent behind the scenes video: which really put my mind at rest and essentially left me feeling satisfied with enough information to make an informed decision, without really having to bring up a discussion that had clearly been touched upon many times before, along with extensive pictures and videos to back those discussions up.I guess in a more polite way I am trying to say, is what others have stated already, there are people here with ten times the experience of you and I put together.....and their time is even more precious than ours. We should be grateful that they are even taking the time to share some of that experience with us, so maybe you should sit back and appreciate the value of them sharing that experience with you, take it on board and give those individuals the respect they deserve. Do not squander your opportunities to communicate with them, by wasting time with questions that could be answered by spending a bit of time researching previous responses to similar topics on this very board. Regardless of the equipment you buy, operate with, or indeed what area of the industry you work in... from one (slightly older) newbie to another.
