30 years and kicking...

This year it will be 30 years that Garrett was running around in that Motel and scaring the maids with a broom stick and came up with the prototype of the Brown Stabilizer. Calls for a celebration I would say...

How much did our job as a steadicam operator change over the last 3 decades...

How much did our equipment change. How it went from beeing an exotic special event when the Steadicam was called to the set, to todays requirements that almost every set has a Steadicam either full or part time on the production.

Memories.... thoughts....

Perhaps we can celebrate this year at our "International Steadicam Gathering" during Cinegear?

It would be neat to put together a video, a documentary of sorts, of the creation and evolution of the steadicam with short clips of some of the greatest steadicam shots of all time (we could take a poll) and interview top guys during their visit to CineGear?

Dear birthday-boys,

Maybe we could do something, e.g. make a fun DVD or video?

This way we can spread the celebrating and joy around the world...

Basically one of the beatiful things is the integration of the steadicam in film and tv industry's all around the world, There are story's from Philadelphia to Japan, Zweden to South Africa... A llot of people would mis out on a specific event in a specific part of the world.

PLease let me know if anybody is interested...

Kind regards,

Patrick

I'm one of those people who would be unable to participate if any event was to be held in the States. (From Cape Town, South Africa.)

I would however be interested in participating in any other way. Not yet a full time Op, currently sharing a rig with someone else while honing the skills and building a reel.(Malibu workshop 2001) There are +- five established Steadicam OPs here that I'm aware of and it should not be too hard to get at least one of them to also participate.

George Paddock is an ex South African is he not?

Later

Gerhard

Thirty years? Wow. Seems like yesterday.

Cheers! I raise a glass to all of you, on seven continents! (or maybe six... I haven't heard from the guy in Antarctica lately... )

If there's a party at Cinegear, count me in! I have been having a great time writing a book about the whole adventure, and though its only half finished, I wouldn't need much more than a single malt or two to read a couple excerpts.

Warm regards, GB
