Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted August 23, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted August 23, 2011 Ok, with all the recent changes to the sled lately, I'm tempted to get a new soft case as my current sled sock does not fit as well as it used to. I may well indeed order another one but the soft case from MK-V has always caught my eye. What do people think of it? Who really makes it? I ask this because at this point in my career, I have no patience to deal with that company nor do I want anything I own to boast their label. So, who really makes this case? Thanks. I only use that for shipping as I had it made as small as possible so the center post has to be collapsed, Preston MDR removed, etc. For day playing and for the camera truck, I use a sled sock and foam pad. They are called Christian Workshop, and they do soft cases for the military: www.caseworksoft.com/ Katerina posted some pictures of the case they made for her, and while I wasn’t looking for a soft case at that point, it appeared to be a good design/build and I made a mental note of it. Last year, I was updating some gear, and remembered Katerina’s case. After some searching on the forum, I located her original post and contacted them. I had the case built to my specifications, although in retrospect, I should have left the measuring to the experts, as my case ended up being larger than I needed it to be…one flaw of not having a local builder that takes measurements. Once the case arrived (within two weeks I believe), I took it to Innerspace Cases in the San Fernando Valley to have custom foam put in the main body and lid and cut to fit my sled. This part of the process took less than a week. I believe the original shell from Christian Workshop was $160 (not including shipping). I don’t recall the price of the foam, although I suspect it was over $100. I am quite pleased with the result. I have a cargo van for transporting my gear locally for day-calls, and the case works perfectly for that. It is more protected than when it rode in my old Modular 51 case, and it is easy to haul around with both handles and a removable strap that can go over the shoulder. It also stands up on its own, which is handy, and reduces the likelihood of it getting inadvertently/accidentally knocked over. Good case and good vender that delivers quickly and that you can actually reach on the phone or by email if need be. Hope this helps.
