I changed my x2 segway

hi all,

I have my X2 for a while now. i use it with the handsfree stuff from reinhard from handsfree-transporter.com. I love all of it.

I use the golf wheels, the are wide and big. In fact, the whole footprint of the x2 is wide, wich isnt a problem at all outdoor. For some studio or other indoor shots, its to wide, so an i2 would be better. Of course you can change the fenders and wheels of the x2, but sounds as to much work.

We now ( in co operation with segway netherlands ) came up with a other solution. I change my wheels from thick to thin within 4 minuts, and i leave the fenders with hardmount on. ( we modified that too. In total with the small wheels, the x2 is just 4 cm wider than an i2.

I love this, we slimmed almost 25 cm, great to ride inside.

Great solution Job.

I got my X2 about 3 years ago just when it was launched as have been using it extensively - mostly with the offroad tires as i noticed the increase in turning

radius on the turf tires. How does it handle on the slimmer I2 wheels, and have you noticed any other differences in performance ?

Its faster ( of course ), it turns easyer and faster if needed. And it feels alright. The wheels arnt made for of road of course, but flat roads is just fine. In my case, inside a studio. It feels very good to be so much less wide

Job,

Looks very cool. Could you explain how you modified your X2 so the various wheels swap out so quickly and without spacers? I have the turf, off road, and i2 indoor tires for my X2 and it takes longer for me (especially with the i2 indoor wheels and the spacers they require with my set-up) to make a swap.

Also, did you modify the fenders? It’s been a long time since I’ve had the i2 wheels on my rig, but yours looks narrower with the i2 wheels than I remember mine being. Thanks for any possible tips.

Sincerely,

Brooks Robinson

PS I’m also curious what people are doing to “dock” their HFT’s when not in use on the set. My X2 doesn’t have a kickstand. I always worried about the possibility of a kickstand accidentally deploying while I was riding it, so I haven’t looked into adding one. That being said, there has to be something better than laying it down on the set or using a sand bag to prop it up. Anyone out there have a good idea?

Yes the fenders are modified too.

I will try to make a pic of the stand soon, its a nice one that folds away if you pick up your hf.

Hey Chris,

Can you please explain when you have time how you can dismantle the turf tyres and reverse them?

Can you leave the standard fenders on?? I don't have my handsfree fenders on-just standard x2.

Does reversing them gain much space?

Best regards

Matt

Hi Matt,

You remove the four large Allen bolts, then dismantle the wheels. Unfortunately, it won't gain you much, because the fenders still stick out. It works on the Steadiseg because the fenders move in and out to accommodate anything from i2 to x2 Turfs. See PM for more info.

All the best,

Chris
