This is for a music video. Background: Out of town shoot, roughly three hour drive. I'm riding in the production's van. Friday afternoon travel, Saturday shoot morning and travel back the same day. I'm booked for Friday travel day (day rate x 50%), and shoot day on Saturday. Sunday is on hold as a weather contingency. Two possible scenarios: 1. If Saturday looks like rain, production may postpone the shoot to Sunday, shifting our travel day to Saturday. They want to make this call on Friday morning. Should there be any penalty for the shift? 2. If we travel on Friday, thinking the weather looks good for Saturday, and it rains unexpectedly on Saturday...then we would postpone to Sunday. So, travel Friday, rainout at the location Saturday, Shoot/travel on Sunday. What is the appropriate charge for Saturday? I'm speaking mainly of labor...is it reasonable to assume no additional gear rental on days when the rig doesn't actually work? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Meanwhile, Friday morning comes along and if they postpone are you able to get work for Friday? They've essentially booked you for 3 days. You cannot book any other work for those days. Premium Members Rob Vuona SOC Posted October 5, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 5, 2011 Mark, Rules of thumb: Travel: anything over 4 hours is a full day pay, with Per Diem They booked you for 3 days , (essentially 2 days, 2 halfs and one full) If they postpone on Sat, you charge them a full day because, as Brian pointed out, you can't go home, you can't get work someplace else and your there for them, therefore weather or not they choose to shoot on Sat is Moot, Its a full day regardless! Oh and BTW . . . I would charge them three days full rig rental as well The rig can't be rented on friday elsewhere since it's going with you, it may or may not be used Saturday but again you can't rent it out elsewhere and Sunday the same. Full day and overtime (to get home) on the shoot day and if Saturday gets cancelled then full rate sunday as well. Sat and Sun are full rate and full kit days. Here in England it rains all the time and I've been in this position many times. If you wanted to give them a sleep in your hotel and go on a nice walk discount for your Saturday off that would be up to you. The grips and the sparks wouldn't. If the client is a really good friend or you woke up with the production manager after friday night maybe give them kit for free on Saturday but never your personal rate. The grips/sparks wouldn't. I always do a short deal memo stating everything mentioned and get it signed and returned before you start the job. -Rate/hours -rental days and rate -Hotel, transportation and per diem -Insurance requirements and policy -Rain policy.
